Several Area Track Teams Compete at Rossville Invite

Multiple area schools traveled to Rossville on Friday to continue their track season and put forth strong performances at a meet stacked with strong competition. 

Leading the way in the girl’s competition was Hiawatha as the lady Red Hawks finished fifth as a team out of 16 schools. Other girls team performances included Jackson Heights seventh, Maur Hill-Mount Academy eighth, Valley Falls tenth, Horton 12th and Jefferson County North 15th. On the boys side of action Horton logged the best team finish taking sixth place out of 17 teams, while Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Hiawatha placed seventh eighth. JCN and Jackson Heights boys teams tied for tenth, while Valley Falls placed 12th and Riverside finished tied for 17th. 

Hiawatha Red Hawks on the day were led by four individual first place finishes at the Rossville Invite. Justin Hodge posted times of 4:49.37 and 10:33.67 to win the boys 1600 and 3200 meter runs, while Elizabeth Kettler won the girls 3200 meter run with a time of 11:53.31. Claire Geiger brought home the gold in the 100 meter hurdles racing to a time of 17.37. Multiple other Red Hawks recorded Top three finishes on the day as Mary Rosa took third in the girls 1600 meter run and Kate Madsen placed third in the girls 3200 meter run. Girl’s 4x800 meter relay team also logged a second place finish on the day. On the boys side Parker Winters earned third in the 800 meter run. 

The Jackson Heights Cobras were led by the performance of Jason Parker as he won the high jump with a leap of 6'02. While in the girl’s competition Karley Dieckmann placed second in the pole vault, MaKenzie Kennedy finished third in the 800 meter run and Abby Brey took third in the javelin. 

A trio of Top three finishes led Maur Hill on the day including Joseph Hernandez who won the boys 300 meter hurdles with a time of 43.77. Taylor Folsom finished second in the boys high jump, while Heather Ronnbebaum placed second in the girls 800 meter run.

Leading the way for the Horton Chargers was a first place finish in the boy’s shot put by Connor Winter who with a toss of 45'07.75 earned the gold. Gunner Madere earned second in the boys long jump for the Chargers, while Daspin Bruning finished third in the girls shot put. 

Valley Falls Dragons were led by Nathan Pickerell who won both the boys long jump and triple jump behind leaps of 19'07 and 40'08. While in the girls competition Sway Schmelzle notched second and third place finishes in the 200 and 100 meter dashes, respectively.

JCN was led by the boy’s 4x400 meter relay team as they raced to a bronze medal in competition.
