Atchison Leads Area Performances at Their Home Track Meet

Atchison hosted track and field action on Thursday with a few area teams in action as Holton, Troy and ACCHS competed alongside with the host Atchison and multiple other teams. 

The top area team performance came at the hands of the Atchison boys as they finished second only nine points behind West Platte out of 11 boy’s teams in action. Holton, ACCHS and Troy placed fifth, sixth and 11th as teams. In the girls competition Atchison earned third place behind only West Platte and Mid-Buchanan, while Holton took fourth place out of 10 teams. Troy and ACCHS placed sixth and ninth as teams. 

Atchison at their home meet won eight events on the day combined between the girls and boys. Leading the way in the girl’s competition was Talia Rawls who sprinted to three first place finishes in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes with times of 13.44, 27.96 and 1:03.51. While the Atchison girls also swept the hurdles as Elizabeth Harper won the 100 meter hurdles (17.16) and Arhianna Franklin won the 300 meter hurdles (50.64). Also on the track the girl’s 4x400 meter relay team (4:31.35), while Adalynn Collins earned the silver in the 1600 meter run. Atchison boys were led by Alex Martin who sprinted to first place in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 11.62 and 23.43 and also earned the silver in the 400 meter dash and long jump. Eight more Top three finishes were picked up by the Atchison boys as the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams each took second and the 4x100 meter relay team grabbed the bronze. Matthew Sowers placed second in the 3200 meter run and third in the 1600 meter run, while Eric Hill placed third in the 300 meter hurdles and in the field events Steven Jolly and Nicholas Funk each placed third in the high jump and shot put. 

The Holton Wildcats were led at the Atchison Invite by Mason Strader who won the boys 800 and 1600 meter runs after posting times of 2:06.82 and 4:43.97, while the boy’s 4x400 meter relay also took first behind a time of 3:40.30. Andrew Harrison added to the gold medal count for Holton by winning the discus with a toss of 138'09. Mason Chanay also picked up a second place finish in the boys pole vault for Holton. In the girls compettion a pair of second place finishes led the way as Cailin Parks took the silver in the 400 meter dash and Carly Raney placed second in the shot put. The lady Wildcat 4x400 meter relay team took third place as did Saydee Tanking in the javelin and Tabor Barta in the pole vault. 

With a time of 53.80 Tucker Smith sprinted his way to the win in the boy’s 400 meter dash to lead the ACCHS Tigers at that Atchison Invite. Jonathon Joice earned a second place finishing the boy’s high jump, while Trystin Myers finished third in the 400 meter dash and triple jump and Luke Miller took third in the discus. For the lady Tigers ACCHS Jaycee Ernzen and Victoira Caplinger each notched a pair of third place finishes each. Ernzen earned the bronze in the 400 and 800 meter runs, while Caplinger placed third in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.

A pair of event wins on the day in the girl’s competition led the Troy Trojans as Amanda Stock won the high jump (5'02) and Morgan Masters won the long jump (17'01.50). Stock added a second place finish in the triple jump to her day, while the lady Trojans 4x100 meter relay team also took second. Troy boys were led by Owen Root who placed second in the discus.
