Axtell Girls Take Fourth Place at 1A-DII State Tournament

The Twin Valley League continued to prove they are tough when you comes to facing them at State as the Axtell lady Eagles put forth a great showing in Dodge City earning a fourth place finish in Class 1A-DII at State. The Eagles wrapped up the State tournament finishing fourth with a tough 46-42 loss in the 1A-DI third place contest against Cunningham. 

Axtell started the game flying out to a 12-5 lead after just the first quarter but Cunningham owned the second quarter outscoring the Eagles 19-8 to then own a 24-20 lead at halftime. The lead grew slightly after three quarter's were in the books as Cunningham posted a 10-7 third to lead by seven points. The Eagles continued to hang tough closing the game to within three points in the final 30 seconds of the contest but Cunningham held on capturing the 46-42 win giving Axtell a fourth place finish at State. 

Olivia Kuckelman paced the Eagles with 12 points in the loss, while Kinsey Feldkamp and Maryna Buessing each netted eight points. 

The Eagles opened the State tournament winning a battle 66-64 over the two seed St. John's/Tipton and then fell to Hartford in the Semifinals with a tough 53-40 loss before taking fourth place with after falling 46-42 to Cunningham. 

Axtell wrapped the season up with a 14-11 record and their second Top four finish at State in girls basketball.
