After claiming the Class 3A State basketball title last year the Marysville Bulldogs earned a return trip to State but this year the new task of Class 4A-DII competition stood in front of Marysville and the Bulldogs got matched up with Hayden in the first round. Hayden took down the Bulldogs 57-51 to end Marysville's season.
Falling down 15-6 after the first quarter Marysville found themselves on their heels early but the Bulldogs made a push back. At the half Hayden led 32-24 but Marysville cut that lead by three going into the fourth quarter and tied it up at 47-47 in the fourth quarter but Hayden finished the game off snagging the 57-51. Hayden used an 18-30 showing from the free throw line to help themselves to the win while Marysville shot six free throws (5-6).
The loss closes the season for Marysville with an 18-4 record making the 19th trip to State in school history. Gabe Pieschl led Marysville with 21 points, while Nic Sparks and Jacob Backus each notched double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Pieschl added eight rebounds to his night, while Bryson Meinhardt snagged 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
