The opportunity to play at the Class 1A-Division I State tournament in Hays was up for grabs on Saturday night and the Frankfort girls held off Valley Falls for the 31-29 win to earn a spot at State.

The action started slow with the first field of the game not coming until 2:15 on the clock in the first quarter and by the end of the first it was 7-4 Frankfort. The shooting woes continued for Valley Falls in the second quarter while Frankfort posted a 10-0 second quarter with six points from Mariah Broxterman to give up them a 17-4 lead at the half. That lead however would disappear in the second half as the Dragons put together a 10-2 run to draw within five at 19-14 and trailed 20-19 late in the third ultimately heading into the fourth quarter down just 23-20. The Dragons used three three-pointers to help them post a 16-6 third quarter to get back into the contest. In the fourth the game was tied multiple times but Frankfort never let Valley Falls take the lead and made a few free throws down the stretch to hold the Dragons at bay. Down two with the final seconds dwindling away Reagan Kirkwood attempted a three-pointer for the win for Valley Falls but it misfired off the rim and Frankfort held on for the 31-29 win.

The win moves Frankfort to 19-4 on the season and punches the Wildcats ticket to the 1A-DI State tournament in Hays as the lady Wildcats earn their first State bid since 2010. Emilee Ebert led Frankfort with 10 points in the win, while Jessa Yaussi helped secure the game with free throws down the stretch earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA.

With the loss Valley Falls wraps up their season with a 20-3 record and were led by Kirkwood and Allison Kearney who each netted eight points.

The Frankfort girls will gear up to continue their season next Thursday, March 8th in Hays for the first round of the Class 1A-DI State tournament as the five seed and play fellow Twin Valley League school Hanover (18-3) in the first round at 4:45pm.
