Nemaha Central and Pleasant Ridge Girls Advance to Sub State Finals

The Lady Thunder and Rams both beat a league rival opponent for the third time this season to advance to the championship in the Horton Class 3A Sub State. 

Pleasant Ridge 45, Maur Hill Mount Academy 35

P-Ridge outscored MH-MA in all four quarters and only trailed once in the game as the Ravens hit the first basket of the second quarter to take an 11-10 advantage.  Julie Miller (6’1, junior) had a big game on both ends of the floor and finished with a game high 14 points while Caitlyn Herbig added nine and the Rams were 10 of 15 at the foul line while improving to 14-8 on the season.  MH-MA struggled to hit outside shots and also had 17 turnovers while Heather Ronnebaum led the way with 11 points and fellow senior Lauren Kocour added eight.  Zanaa Cordis chipped in nine points before the Ravens finished their campaign with a record of 14-8. 

Nemaha Central 48, Sabetha 36

Jacy Dalinghaus scored the first five points of the game in the initial 20 seconds and a couple minutes later, the Thunder had a 10-0 advantage.  Sabetha got within 21-18 in the second quarter but trailed 27-20 at halftime and the Jays closed the game to 28-24 in the third period before Nemaha Central answered with a three-point play by Laura Macke.  Leading 37-25, the Thunder went on a 9-0 spurt to start the fourth period and put the game away building a 21-point cushion.  Macke finished with eight of her 16 points in the fourth quarter including six of eight free throws as the Thunder made 9-14 in the last stanza and 15 of 23 for the game at the charity stripe.  Dalinghaus added 10 points as Nemaha Central won their tenth straight contest and improved to 20-2 on the season.  Sabetha got 14 points from freshman Melinna Schumann off the bench including three treys in the second quarter.  Skylar McAfee added seven points but the Bluejays had 18 turnovers and were just 7-17 shooting free throws before ending a second straight season with 11 total wins.
