The 2018 Kansas Shrine Bowl rosters have been announced and four area senior football stars have been selected to participate in the contest this year set for July 28th, 2018 at 7:00pm in Pittsburg, Kansas at Pittsburg State University.

The quartet of Wyatt Beyer of Sabetha, Jack Blumer of Marysville, Mitchell Henry of Nemaha Central and Carlos Emanuel of Hanover have all been selected and invited to play in the 45th annual Kansas Shrine Bowl. Beyer, Blumer and Henry were all selected as part of the East team and Emanuel as part of the West team.

Beyer wrapped up his playing career at Sabetha helping the Bluejays capture the school's third State title as the Bluejays finished the season 13-1 and Class 3A State Champions. Beyer played defensive back and tailback for Sabetha leading the team in interceptions with seven as the Bluejays were one of the best teams in the State in forcing turnovers. The senior also had nearly 30 tackles and a fumble recovery and ran for 712 yards with 11 touchdowns, while earning All-State and first team All-Big Seven League honors.

Marysville senior, Blumer put up eye opening numbers at quarterback helping the Bulldogs to the Class 3A State title game and a State runner-up finish with a 12-2 record. Blumer threw for 3,152 yards with 31 touchdowns to only five interceptions, while rushing for 989 yards with 13 scores on the year. His performance and numbers earned him offensive Class 3A "Player of the Year" honors along with All-State honors, Top 33 honors and first team NCKL honors.

Henry of Nemaha Central helped the Thunder to a 10-1 record on the season with another playoff berth along with winning the Big Seven League and going unbeaten in the regular season for the third straight year. The Thunder senior played quarterback and defensive back and ran for nearly 1,000 yards with 26 touchdowns and passed for nearly 1,200 yards with 10 scores, while making around 50 tackles and several interceptions on defense. Henry picked up All-State and first team All-Big Seven League honors.

Emanuel of Hanover is one of the strongest football players in the State no matter the classification and he helped Hanover finish the season 13-0 and repeat as 8-Man Division II State Champs. The Hanover senior led the team in tackles with 87 from his defensive tackle position and made 14.5 tackles for loss, had three sacks, an interception and forced fumble. Emanuel earned defensive "Player of the Year" honors in 8-Man DII and also picked up All-State and first team All-Twin Valley League honors.

While four area senior football athletes were selected to participate in the game two area coaches are set to be involved in the game also. Nemaha Central Thunder head coach, Warren Seitz will serve as the head coach of the East team. Seitz will be coaching in his third Shrine Bowl and played in the game back in 1981 representing Topeka West and enters the game after leading Nemaha Central to a 10-1 season in which the team finished the regular season unbeaten for the third straight year and won the Big Seven League title and qualified for the playoffs. Seitz in his time at Nemaha Central is 60-15 on the gridiron and has 110 career wins in coaching career.

Coach Seitz will have a fellow Big Seven coach on the sidelines with him as one of his assistants for the 2018 Shrine Bowl as Sabetha Bluejay head coach, Garrett Michael will serve as an assistant coach. Michael led the Bluejays to a 13-1 record this year claiming the Class 3A State title. As Bluejay head coach the last nine years Michael has led the team to the playoffs each year and has been a part of the program for 21 years overall.

The 45th Annual Kansas Shrine Bowl will be played Saturday, July 28th, 2018, in Pittsburg, Kansas, at Carnie Smith Stadium on the campus of Pittsburg State University with kickoff at 7:00 pm. Tickets and additional information are available at www.kansasshrinebowl.com or by calling 800-530-5524.
