Eighteen Area High School Basketball Teams Ranked in Latest KBCA Rankings

With holiday break looming and only one game left before the break for many teams the new Kansas Basketball Association rankings have been released and this week 18 area team find themselves in the rankings. 

Class 1A-Division I continues to house the most area teams in the rankings with seven in the polls between the girls and boys rankings. The Hanover girls continue to hold the #1 spot and sit at 4-0 on the season after beating Blue Valley-Randolph and Diller-Odell last week. Centralia Panther girls follow suit in the rankings remaining at #2 and are 5-0 to open the season after wins over Blue Valley-Randolph and Doniphan West last week. The Frankfort Wildcat girls broke into the rankings last week and this week vault up three spots to #5. Frankfort sits at 6-0 on the season snagging wins over Rossville and Linn last week. Valley Falls girls remain in the rankings this week at #9 falling down three spots and sit at 4-1 after wins over JCN and Maur Hill-Mount Academy last week. 

In the boys side of the 1A-DI rankings both Hanover and Doniphan West continue to sit in the top portion of the rankings holding the #1 and #3 rankings, respectively again this week. Hanover is 4-0 after picking up wins over Blue Valley-Randolph and Diller-Odell last week, while Doniphan West moved to 5-0 after beating Centralia and Horton. Another Twin Valley League team joined them in the rankings this week as the Clifton-Clyde boys who have put together a 5-1 start to the year jump into the polls at #8. Eagles claimed wins over Washington County and Onaga last week. 

When the season started no area teams were ranked in Class 1A-Division II but the Linn boys with a 3-1 start to the year have broken into the rankings this week coming in at #10. The Bulldogs split last week falling to Valley Heights but beat Frankfort. 

Class 3A continues to house five Big Seven League teams in the rankings with one owning the #1 spot in the girl’s poll. Nemaha Central Thunder girls took over the #1 spot last week and remain there this week after beating Sabetha and Royal Valley to improve to 5-0. Sabetha girls despite a loss to Nemaha Central last week remain ranked falling two spots to #10 as the Bluejays are 3-2 on the season. In the boys 3A poll Nemaha Central, Perry Lecompton and Sabetha all remain ranked this week. The Thunder move down to #4 after beating Royal Valley and Sabetha last week to move to 5-0, while Perry Lecompton is also 5-0 after beating Hiawatha and Riverside last week and the Kaws moved up to #6. Sabetha remains ranked #10 after a loss to Nemaha Central that puts them at 2-3 on the season (all three losses to ranked teams). 

The 4A-Division II rankings continue to have four area teams in the polls with three in the girl’s rankings. The Holton girls after a big leap in the rankings last week are up another spot to #2 and sit at 4-1 on the year with wins over Jeff West and Riverside last week. Marysville girls are 6-0 on the season beating Chapman and Concordia last week and remain ranked at #4 this week. While the Jeff West Tigers sit at 3-2 after beating ACCHS and falling to Holton last week and fall from the top spot to #10 this week. In the boys 4A-DII rankings the Marysville fell three spots to #6 after a 1-1 week last week beating Concordia and losing to Chapman to move to 5-1 on the season. 

Jefferson County North lady Chargers are 3-1 on the season after beating Troy and falling to Valley Falls last week and are ranked #6 this week down one spot in the Class 2A rankings. 

The basketball season continues this week; make sure to tune into coverage of area games every Tuesday and Friday throughout the season on 103.9 KNZA, 92.1 KMZA and KAIR 93.7 FM along with the Holton and Sabetha Channels.
