The Nemaha Central girls and boys basketball teams both remained undefeated (4-0) with wins against visiting Big 7 rival Sabetha on Tuesday night.  All four teams entered the night in the Class 3A State Rankings.

GIRLS = Nemaha Central 47, Sabetha 35

The game was tied early at five and seven, but Nemaha went on a 6-0 run to take a 13-7 advantage and never trailed in taking over sole possession of first place in the Big 7 League.  The Thunder never led by more than 12 points, but Sabetha could not get any closer than 30-25 entering the fourth quarter.  The Lady Jays missed their only two free throws of the game in the final stanza and had 20 turnovers on the night while Nemaha went 8 of 15 at the charity stripe, including a trio of and-one opportunities for Jacy Dalinghaus, who scored 16 points and helped Nemaha win the battle of the boards.  Laura Macke finished with 9 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter and Ashley Larkin added 11 as those three combined for all but two of the Thunder points in the contest.  Sabetha (3-2 overall, 3-1 League) hit five treys and was led in scoring by Jessica Payne with 10 points

BOYS = Nemaha Central 46, Sabetha 40

This game featured four lead changes early with Nemaha going on a 9-2 run to take the 16-10 advantage and led 20-14 at halftime.  Sabetha answered with seven straight points to lead 21-20 in the third quarter, but Nemaha Central took the lead back for good by scoring 10 straight points while Sabetha was hit for a technical foul in the middle of that run that shifted all momentum to the home team.  The Thunder closed the third quarter on a 14-4 run and got a huge trey from Cole Kramer and two buckets by Matt Baumgartner in the final frame to protect the lead.  Mitchell Henry had a great night and was the only player that scored in double figures with 15 points while adding 10 rebounds.

Nemaha Central (4-0) was 11 of 18 at the foul-line and had Dalton Schmelzle scored six of his eight points during the critical late third quarter stretch.  Sabetha (2-3 overall, 2-2 League) was led by Brett Stallbaumer and Ryan Stapleton who each scored seven points including a trey, but the Jays were just two of five at the line.

Sabetha is off Friday while Nemaha Central plays at Royal Valley.
