Marysville Dominates, Perry Lecompton Takes Second & Several Other Area Teams Compete at Mission Valley Wrestling Invite

Five area wrestling teams opened their seasons on the mats at the Mission Valley Invite as the competition featured 16 teams in total. 

After finishing third place at State in Class 3A last year the Marysville Bulldogs wrestling squad started the 2017-18 season strong posting 201.5 total points to dominate the competition winning by 105.5 points. Perry Lecompton earned second as a team with 96 total points, while Oskaloosa, Doniphan West and Jeff West finished out the team finishes placing tied for 13th, 15th and 16th. 

Leading the charge for Marysville was 12 Top five finishes on the day including five first individual first place finishes. A 2-0 showing at 285lbs earned Seth Mooradian first place as he captured both wins by pinfall in 1:47 and 2:37, while Ben Dwerlkotte at 195lbs went 3-0 in competition and won all three matches by pinfall 1:06, 1:29 and 1:59. At 160lbs Storm Slupianek posted a 3-0 day for first place winning by pinfall (1:56), technical fall 18-1 and decision 4-3 in the first place match. Ethan Crownover and Jonny Crome each also recorded 3-0 days at 126lbs and 132lbs, respectively. Crownover recorded wins by major decision 15-1, pinfall (3:17) and 7-2 decision, while Crome won by pinfall all three times 1:49, 4:59 and 3:05. 

Two Bulldogs earned second place on the day as Arteyau Hornbeak (170lbs) went 2-1 in action and Garron Champoux (182lbs) finished 3-1 to both take second. Both Isaac Novotny (106lbs) and Gabe Capp (152lbs) finished third place each posting 4-1 records on the mats on the day. Three Marysville grapplers posted fourth place finishes as Jakob Snellings (126lbs), Derek Roever (152lbs) and Matt Lindhorst (182lbs) each took fourth place finishing 2-2, 3-2 and 3-2 records. 

Four Top four finishes led the Perry Lecompton Kaws on the day who earned second place as a team. Two second place finishes were the top finishes on the day for Perry Lecompton as Cyrus McCoy (195lbs) and Braden Woodson (106lbs) each earned second place after posting 2-1 and 3-1 records on the day. Collin Rossillon (220lbs) recorded a 3-1 day on the mats and earned third place, while a fourth place finish was garnered by Wyatt Pringle (120lbs) after finishing 3-2 in action. 

Oskaloosa Bears were led by a third place finish by Jared Miller at 182lbs as he posted a 3-1 record on the day, while Triston Hopkins at 145lbs registered a fourth place finish going 2-2. 

Doniphan West Mustang, Zeb Speer wrestled to first place at 170lbs going 3-0 and winning by pinfall 1:01, 4:19, 1:23 each time. While, Norman Miller earned third place after a 2-1 day at 285lbs. 

Jeff West Tigers had one grappler place on the day as Kody Gibson at 145lbs earned third place after going 4-1 on the mats.
