Centralia Takes Twin Valley Volleyball Tournament Title

No matter the sport the competition level is always strong and high caliber in the Twin Valley League and that was on display in Randolph on Saturday at the TVL volleyball tournament. 

The TVL tournament has belonged to the Centralia Panthers for years now and yet again the Panthers were the team hoisting the TVL tournament trophy at the end of the competition winning it for the sixth straight year. 

The top eight teams in the TVL regular season standings compete in the Gold Division portion of the TVL volleyball tournament and start out in pool play action. In the first pool it was Washington County, Valley Heights, Hanover and Linn, while Centralia, Frankfort, Axtell and Blue Valley were in the second pool. Washington County finished first in their pool going 2-1 beating Valley Heights in three sets and Linn in straight sets but falling to Hanover in three sets. Valley Heights took second also going 2-1 beating Hanover and Linn in straight sets, while Hanover also went 2-1 in pool play with a three set win over Washington County and straight set win over Linn but finished third in the pool. Linn posted a 0-3 day. 

In the second pool Centralia went 3-0 winning in straight sets over Frankfort, Axtell and Blue Valley. Frankfort took second beating Axtell in a tough three set contest and topping Blue Valley in straight sets, while Axtell picked up a win over Blue Valley in straight sets. 

On to bracket play the top two teams from each pool went and in the Semifinals Centralia took down Valley Heights in straight sets, while Washington County needed three sets to beat Frankfort. 

In the Championship Centralia took down Washington County in straight sets for the perfect 5-0 day and TVL Tournament title. Third place belonged to Valley Heights who beat Frankfort in three sets in the third place match. 

The rest of the League competed against each other in the Silver Division portion of the tournament. Clifton-Clyde went 4-0 in that action beating Doniphan West and Troy both three sets and topping Wetmore and Onaga in straight sets. Troy had a 3-1 day with a three set win over Onaga and Wetmore and straight set win over Doniphan West. Donpihan West posted a 2-2 day on the court beating Wetmore and Onaga in straight sets and three sets, respectively. Wetmore picked up a straight set win over Onaga to go 1-3, while the Buffaloes went 0-4 on the day.
