Low numbers and enrollment strikes again as the fourth area school will be making the transition to 8-Man football over the past few years. Doniphan West has decided to officially make the move from 11-Man football to 8-Man starting next year 2018.

With the low numbers and similar low numbers, only 15 guys out this year and no expected drastic number increase in the years to come the Mustangs have decided to make the switch to 8-Man football for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Doniphan West becomes the fourth area team to make the move to 8-Man football over the past few years as both Valley Falls and Onaga made the adjustment last year and Washington County has already announced their intentions to switch to 8-Man football next year also. The Mustangs can make the adjustment to 8-Man football next year as 2017 marks the end of a two-year cycle and the move will also come with the classification system change next year.

Doniphan West back in 2009 was formed when both Highland and Midway Denton consolidated at the time. Both Highland and Midway Denton played 8-Man football until the consolidation of the two schools.

Currently eight of the 13 teams in the Twin Valley League play 8-Man football with Onaga moving down just last year. With Doniphan West and Washington County moving to 8-Man that will only leave Centralia, Valley Heights and Troy as 11-Man teams in the TVL, changing the landscape of the TVL football season.
