After splitting the four regular season matchups with three of the four decided by three runs or less it was only fitting that the rubber match between Sabetha and Sencea was a close affair going down to the seventh inning before it was decided with Sabetha winning 2-1 in walk-off fashion.

Both teams started slow but it was Seneca break through first getting a two-out base runner via an error in the top of third and then Lucas Schraad followed with the team’s first hit of the contest a RBI double and Seneca led 1-0. In the bottom of the fourth Sabetha worked the bases loaded with nobody out and looked to be primed to tie the game or take the lead but a fielder's choice and then a double play ended the scoring threat and after four Seneca maintained a 1-0 lead. After stranding a pair in the top of the 5th Seneca saw Sabetha tie the game in the bottom of the fifth as Preston Bruning was hit by a pitch to get on base and with two-outs Brandon Brownlee delivered an RBI double to make it 1-1. Each team spoiled an opportunity in the sixth getting the leadoff man on but nothing coming of it. Tied entering the seventh Seneca had two on with two-outs when Schraad notched a hit to right and Mitchell Henry turned third looking to score but stumbled and then was caught in a rundown between third and home as Brownlee tagged him out to get out of the top of the seven. After a groundball out to open the bottom of the seventh Bruning hit a double and it was followed by a intentional walk of Joe Gruber then a Brownlee single to load the bases with one-out. Seth Burdick stepped to the plate and hit a fly ball to center deep enough for Bruning to tag up and score the winning run lifting Sabetha to a 2-1 victory.

Gruber earned the win on the mound for Sabetha tossing a complete game giving up just one run on six hits and three walks, while striking out eight. Leading the offense was Bruning who was 3-3 with a double and hit by pitch and scored both runs. Bruning's performance earned him McDonald's "Player of the Game" on KNZA, while Brownlee added a 2-4 game with a RBI double.

In the loss Dalton Hiltibrand went the distance for Seneca giving up two runs on eight hits, three walks and a hit batter, while striking out six. At the plate both Schraad and Henry went 2-3 with Lucas notching a RBI double and drawing a walk.

The win moves Sabetha to 24-10 on the season, while Seneca fell to 14-9 on the year.

(listen back to 103.9 KNZA broadcast - click here)

The nightcap on Monday night in the AA Zone tournament at Sabetha was drastically different than the first game as Marysville jumped on Doniphan County early and cruised to the 10-0 win in four innings.

Marysville opened the contest with three-straight singles and then two walks to see the first five batters of the game reach safely and by the end of the first inning all five scored making it 5-0 before Doniphan County took the bats off their shoulders. Two more runs were tallied in the second inning and Doniphan County starter Reid Greaser left the ball game after just one and two-third innings struggling to find his groove. The lead grew in the top of the fourth as Marysville plated three more runs on a hit batter, error and three hits pushing the lead to 10-0. Down by 10 Doniphan County needed at least one run in the bottom of the fourth to continue the game but Marysville set them down 1-2-3 to finish the with Doniphan County having just one base runner.

Haggard earned the win on the mound giving up just one hit and striking out five in four innings, while going 1-2 with two RBI and two runs scored at the plate earning him McDonald's "Player of the Game" honors on KNZA. Eight of the nine Marysville batters recorded a hit in the win with both Derek Roever and Adam Lindhorst each going 2-2. Roever had two runs scored and Lindhorst a pair of RBI's.

Doniphan County in the loss got their lone hit from Zeb Speer, while Greaser gave up seven runs in one and two-thirds on six hits and four walks. Tyler Franken tossed the final two and one-third inning surrendering three runs on four hits and a hit batter.

The win moves Marysville to 23-7 on the season, while Doniphan County with the loss fell to 19-8.
