Two Area Basketball Players Set to Compete in KBCA All-Star Games This Weekend

Two area senior basketball stars from Northeast Kansas and three area coaches are set to participate in the annual Kansas Basketball Coaches Association All-Star games set for Saturday, June 24th at Kansas Wesleyan University. 

Centralia Panther, Cassidy Haufler will play for the White team in the girls All-Star game, while in the boys game Hanover Wildcat, Will Bruna will play for the Blue team in the All-Star contest. . 

Haufler helped Centralia cap a year in which the Panthers finished 24-2 overall winning the Twin Valley League regular season and tournament titles, while taking third place at State. Cassidy posted 14.5 points per game along with nine rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game her senior year and earned first team All-TVL for the second time, while being named first team All-State. The Panther senior was a key piece of the 2016 1A-DI State title team, along with the 2015 State runner-up team.

Bruna helped guide the Hanover Wildcat boys to their second State title in the last three years and sixth in school history in boys’ basketball as the team capped the year with a 24-2 record. Will averaged 16.7 points per game, while posting 3.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.2 steals per game earning first team All-TVL for the third-straight year and first team All-State for the third time, also. The Hanover senior helped the Wildcats win boys basketball State title in two of the last three years, while finishing fourth the other year. 

Three area coaches will also be a part of the annual KBCA All-Star games as Hanover girl's coach, Chris Beikmann along with Hanover boys coach, Kim Lohse and Marysville boys coach, Scott Brown will serve as assistant coaches for the All-Star games. Beikmann guided Hanover girls to their first ever State title in school history coming in his first year as head coach as the lady Wildcats won the 1A-Division I State title finishing the year 24-2. Lohse guided Hanover boys to their sixth title in school history and second in the last three years as they also won the 1A-DI crown finishing 24-2 like the girls. Brown led the Marysville boys to the school's third State title winning the 3A crown and finishing 22-4 on the season. 

The annual KBCA All-Star games feature top senior basketball players from around the State every year and are set for Saturday, June 24th at Kansas Wesleyan University with action starting at 6:00pm. Admission is $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for K-12.
