Nine Area Softball Players Selected All-State by KSCA

It was a highly competitive high school softball season in Northeast Kansas with area teams putting up solid performances for the 2017 season including a pair of teams finishing third and fourth in Class 3A at State. The Kansas Softball Coaches Association has handed out their All-State honors for the 2017 season and nine area athletes picked up the honors. 

Class 3A saw a pair of area teams qualify for the State tournament and Marysville and Perry Lecompton finished the season third and fourth at State, respectively posting records of 20-5 and 22-4, respectively. Both teams had players earn All-State honors as Shelby Downard of Marysville picked up first team All-State honors at pitcher, while Perry Lecompton's Harleigh Robertson and Megan Fast earned first and second team honors, respectively at outfield and pitcher. Royal Valley Panther, Sarah Beam also earned All-State honors getting the nod for first team honors in the infield as the Panthers finished the year 16-5. 

Class 2A All-State honors features four area athletes from a pair of Northeast Kansas League teams as McLouth and Valley Falls each placed two on the All-State list. Jennica Messer and Kimberly Patterson of McLouth both were named first team All-State at catcher and infield, respectively as McLouth finished the season 11-8. While Valley Falls Dragons posted a 15-5 record on the year and had Allison Kearney and Reagan Kirkwood each earn All-State second team honors each in the infield. 

In Class 4A Holton Wildcat, Casi VanAusdall earned second team All-State honors in the infield as the Wildcats posted a 15-6 record on the season.
