Former Nemaha Central Thunder, Shaylyn Stallbaumer Set to Compete at NCAA DI Track & Field Nationals

The NCAA Division I National track and field competition is set for this week June 7th-10th in Eugene, Oregon and former Nemaha Central Thunder, Shaylyn Stallbaumer will be in action competing against some of the other top college throwers in the country competing for the KU women’s track team which ranks 22nd in the country headed into Nationals.

Stallbaumer a sophomore at KU qualified for the National competition after posting a throw of 163’11 in the javelin at the NCAA DI West Prelims in Austin, Texas and placing fourth out of 42 throwers at the meet. The throw of 163’11 that qualified the former Thunder for Nationals ranks 10th among the 24 throwers set to compete at Nationals.

During the Outdoor season the former Thunder has posted several top notch throws in the javelin. To open the Outdoor season a toss of 166’05 (her second best mark while at KU) earned her second place at the 38th Sun Angel Classic (at Arizona State). While at the KU Relays she won the javelin competition she competed in posting a mark of 153’10 and also took first at the Rock Chalk Classic behind a throw of 143’03. At the Rock Chalk Classic she also competed in the shot put and earned fourth place with a throw of 41’00.50. A throw of 153’00 was good enough to earn her fourth place at the Big 12 Championships, while she also placed 11th in the shot put (39’09.25).

In the indoor season this year, Stallbaumer competed in the shot put and registered three Top six performances taking third at the Bob Timmons Challenge (42’00.75), fourth at the Wichita vs Kanasas vs Kansas State competition (42’02) and sixth at the Bill Easton Classic (40’11.75).

Freshman year Stallbaumer recorded her best throw in the javelin as a Jayhawk at the KU Relays with a toss of 167’05 to take first and also won the javelin at the Mesa Classic (159’10). In the Big 12 Outdoor Championship Shaylyn earned an eighth place finish (147’10), while she also competed at the NCAA West Preliminary and placed 35th (145’03).

At Nemaha Central she capped her high school career by winning the Class 3A State javelin title and also earned third place at twice in the javelin in her career. She finished high school as a six-time letter winner in track and volleyball.

Stallbaumer is set to cap her sophomore campaign as part of the KU women’s track team at Nationals competing at Nationals in the javelin and is set to be in action on June 8th.
