Centralia Girls Win Regional Title Leading 1A Area Track State Qualifiers at Frankfort

1A Track Regional at Frankfort Results (5-18-17) - Girls & Boys

A trip to the State meet in Wichita that was up for grabs on Thursday in Frankfort in Class 1A with Regional track and field action and behind Top four finishes several area athletes qualified for the State competition. 

Leading the charge at the Regional was the performance on the girls side of competition as a trio of Twin Valley League teams placed first, second and third as teams. The defending 1A State Champion Centralia lady Panthers won the Regional title scoring 92 points and winning by 34, while Hanover took second and Axtell finished third. The best area boys’ team performance came from Hanover who took third finishing behind Beloit-St. John's and Pike Valley. 

For the Centralia Panthers they had 19 Top four finishes to qualify for State between the girls and boys. Helping the lady Panthers win the Regional title was the relay teams as all three qualified for State with the girls 4x100 posting a time of 53.10 to take first at Regionals, while the 4x400 and 4x800 both took second place. Morgan Kramer won the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.52, while also taking second in the 100 meter dash and also on the track Maegan Koch won the 400 meter dash behind a time of 1:01.99. In the field events Madison Lueger led the lady Panthers winning the girls javelin posting a toss of 144'07, while also taking second in the shot put. Both Breanna Schmitz and Breanna Hasenkamp qualified in the pole vault after finishing second and third, respectively, while Kate Elliott placed fourth in the shot put. The Centralia boys were led by four Regional individual titles including Dylan Boeckman winning the pole vault (13'06) and the 300 meter hurdles (42.00). Josh Hasenkamp earned first in the javelin (172'08) and finished third in the pole vault, while the Panther boys 4x400 meter relay (3:38.84) took first also. The 4x400 meter relay team placed fourth to earn a spot at State, while Stephan Leblanc finished second in the pole vault and Daegan Steinlage tallied a second place finish in the discus. 

The Hanover Wildcats had 17 Top four qualifying finishes on the day in Frankfort at Regionals between the girls and boys. All three lady Wildcat relay teams are headed to State as the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams posted times of 4:17.42 and 10:37.06 to win Regionals and the 4x100 placed second. Claire Zarbnicky won the girls 800 meter run (2:28.74) and took second in the 400 meter dash, while Bailey Liby placed fourth in the girls 300 meter hurdles and Macy Doebele finished third in the triple jump. Hanover boys were led Thomas Atkins who won the triple jump with a leap of 40'08.50 and took third in the long jump, while Pete Peters placed third in both the high jump and 400 meter dash. Boys 4x400 meter relay team earned second place and the 4x800 took third to qualify for State, while Michael Jueneman finished second in the 300 meter hurdles and Adam Zarybnicky took fourth in the 800 meter run. Both Justin Naegele and Carlos Emanuel earned spots at State in the high jump and shot put after fourth and second place finishes, respectively. 

Axtell Eagles are highlighted by their State qualifiers on the girls side with nine Top four finishes, while the boys had a pair of Top four finishes. Mariah Deters is headed to State in three events after taking second in the girl’s high jump and fourth in the long and triple jumps. Olivia Kuckelman qualified for State with a pair of second place finishes in the girls 1600 and 3200 meter runs, while Kori Schmelzle placed fourth in the girl’s 200 meter dash and Anna Buessing finished third in the girls javelin. Lady Eagles 4x800 and 4x400 meter relays are also going to State after third and fourth place finishes. The Axtell boys 4x800 meter relay team placed second at Regionals and Burke Deters earned a third place finish in the boys 3200 meter run. 

The host of the Regionals the Frankfort Wildcats qualified several athletes for the State competition also. A pair of Regional titles for Emilee Ebert led the way for Frankfort was she won the 100 meter dash (12.75) and the long jump (16'08.75). Kennen Brandt qualified for State in two events by placing fourth in the pole vault and 800 meter run, while the lady Wildcats 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams placed third and fourth, respectively and Kaci Vaughn took second in the girl’s javelin. Frankfort boys were led by Brodric Shirley who earned a spot at State in the 3200 and 1600 meter runs with second and fourth place finishes. Garrett Dalinghaus and Brendan Levi are both going to State also after placing third in the 110 meter hurdles and fourth in the 400 meter dash, respectively. 

Onaga Buffaloes had eight Top four State qualifying performances at Regionals. In the boys action Brendan Melvin won the 400 meter dash (53.79), while Logan Marten took second in the 400 meter dash and fourth in the triple jump and the boys 4x400 meter relay team place fourth. Lady Buffaloes had Shay Duer earn fourth place in both the javelin and discus, while Belinda Ames placed third in the 300 meter hurdles and McKayla Hall finish fourth in the 100 meter dash. 

Baylie Bowser of Clifton-Clyde posted tosses of 34'01 and 107'02 to win the Regional titles in the girl’s shot put and discus, while Jaysie Bowser placed third in the 800 meter run and Shaylea Lawson took third in the 400 meter dash. The Clifton-Clyde boys were led by Michael Spehr who won the 110 meter hurdles (16.65), while Nate Ohlde took fourth in the 300 meter hurdles and the boy’s 4x100 meter relay placed third. 

Leading Blue Valley-Randolph's performances at Regionals was a first place finish by Kathryn Hutson in the girls 1600 meter run winning with a time of 5:47.51 and also qualifying for State with a third place finish in the 3200 meter run. Georgia Hatesohl notched a pair of second place finishes in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles for the Rams, while the girl’s 4x100 meter relay took fourth and Elizabeth Wright placed second in the girls discus. 

Shelby Ohlde led the Linn Bulldogs performances at Regionals as she won the high jump with a leap of 5'07, while also taking third in the 200 meter dash. The lady Bulldogs 4x100 meter relay team earned third place, while Brooke Diederich finished third in the girls long jump and Hunter York took third in the girl’s discus. Dillon Cooper was the lone Bulldog boy to qualify for State placing fourth in the javelin.

A trio of Immaculata lady Raiders qualified for State as Jordan Sachse took second in the triple jump, Karli Schmidt placed fourth in the high jump and Ally Campbell earned a fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash. 

Wetmore Cardinals, Curtis Bloom and Trenton Rowland both are headed to State as Bloom took second in the boys triple jump and Rowland took first in the shot put (46'01.25). 

Shayna Wilson was the lone Doniphan West State qualifier as she took third and fourth in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles at Regionals. 

State track meet is set for Friday and Saturday, May 26-27th in Wichita at Cessna stadium.
