Onaga Hosts Jackson Heights & Wetmore in Track Action

Three area teams and one other compete in track and field action on Friday as Onaga played host to Wetmore, Jackson Heights and St. Mary's. 

In the girls competition Onaga earned first place with 116 points, while Jackson Heights earned second and then St. Mary's and Wetmore finished third and fourth. Jackson Heights boys took first place as a team with 93 points, while Onaga finished second and Wetmore and St. Mary's finished third and fourth. 

The host Onaga Buffaloes had nine event wins in the girls competition and six in the boys competition. Belinda Ames led the way for the lady Buffs sweeping the hurdles posting times of 17.80 and 50.72 in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, while leaping to first in the long jump (15'01). McKayla Hall sprinted to first in the 100 (13.43) and 200 meter dashes (29.85), while the lady Buffaloes won the 4x400 (5:10.60) and 4x800 (13:51.86) meter relays. In the field events Morgan Mayginnes won the girls shot put (29'07) and Shay Duer took first in the javelin (101'10). 

Onaga boys were led by Brendan Melvin who won the 100 meter dash (11.92) and javelin (135'10), while the boys 4x100 (47.82) and 4x400 (4:12.36) meter relay teams also took first. 
Aaron Schwartz earned first in the 110 meter hurdles (20.50) and Logan Marten won the high jump (5'06).

Jackson Heights boys were led by Steven Marshall as he won three events posting a time of 24.09 to win the 200 meter dash and jumps of 18'07 and 40'08.25 earned him first in the long and triple jumps. Dalton Chartier and Xavier Fritz each won an event taking first on the track in the 400 meter dash (52.62) and 800 meter run (2:15.96), while the Cobra boys 4x800 meter relay team took the gold with a time of 9:48.46. In the field events the Cobra boys were led by Evan Fox and Braden Dohl who won the pole vault (10'00) and discus (124'11), respectively. 

The lady Cobras were led by a pair of multi-event winners as Karley Dieckmann and Abby Williams each won two events. Dieckmann took first in the 800 meter run (2:44.25) and the pole vault (7'00), while Williams won the high jump (4'10) and triple jump (31'10.50). On the track the Cobra girls won the 4x100 meter relay (57.11), while Trinity McMahon, MaKenzei Kennedy and Faith Little won the 400 meter dash (1:07.52), 1600 meter run (5:59.27) and 3200 meter run (12:07.19). In the field events Grace Roles won the discus with a toss of 97'03.

Wetmore Cardinals were led by Aaron Achten who won the boys 1600 (4:56.44) and 3200 meter runs (10:57.07). Joel Hutfles and Trenton Rowland each took first in the 300 meter hurdles (46.37) and shot put (43'00). 

Both Onaga and Wetmore will continue the season next Thursday, May 11th at Washington County for the Twin Valley League meet, while Jackson Heights will compete at McLouth next Thursday at the Northeast Kansas League meet.
