For the eighth time in school history the Hanover Wildcat boys will vie for the State title on the hoops court after beating St. Francis 64-44 in the Class 1A-Division I State tournament Semifinals on Friday.
Behind solid shooting Hanover jumped out to the early lead going up 16-10 after the first quarter but had doubled up St. Francis at 14-7 early in the contest. The lead drew to double figures by halftime as the Wildcats carried a 35-24 lead into intermission and it stayed that double figure lead through the rest of the game was Hanover padded their lead. The Wildcats shot 43.9% from the floor and rained nine three's, while going 19-25 from the free throw line helping guide them to the 64-44 win.
The victory moves Hanover to 23-2 on the season and into the State title game where they will look to capture their sixth State title. Will Bruna paced the Wildcats with 31 points going 12-15 from the free throw line, while Michael Jueneman tallied 18 points hitting four three's in the win.
Hanover will now play for the 1A-DI State title on Saturday, March 11th at 6:15pm in Hays playing South Gray.
