Tuesday night marked the regular season finale for Onaga and Doniphan West as they meet up in Highland for a Twin Valley League showdown. The night ended in a split as the lady Mustangs behind strong second and third quarters galloped to the 57-21 win, while the Onaga boys for the third time this season topped Doniphan West edging them 48-42.

Out of the gate both girls teams started slow offensively but Doniphan West did jump out to a 7-0 start over the first four minutes of the game but only led 8-4 at the end of the first quarter. An outburst of offense from Mia Scott and the Mustangs pushed the lead to double figures quickly in the second quarter as a 10-1 run over the first three minutes of the second quarter made it 18-5. The lead expanded more in the second as Scott had 12 points of her game-high 24 in the second and Doniphan West outscored Onaga 21-5 to lead 29-9 at the half. The gallop continued in the second half as Doniphan West poured in 24 points in the third outscoring the Buffaloes 24-4 in the frame to ultimately cruise to the win 57-21.

The victory moves Doniphan West to 8-13 on the season and the Mustangs finish TVL play 3-9. Scott paced the team with a season-high 24 points setting the tone early for Doniphan West with 15 points in the first half earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Carlie Taylor chipped in 13 points with six in the third quarter.

Onaga with the loss falls to 0-20 on the season and finishes TVL play 0-12. Shay Duer led the Buffaloes in the loss with 10 points all from the free throw line going 10-14 from the charity stripe.

For the third time this season Onaga and Doniphan West boys faced off on the hardwood and the Buffaloes snagged the win again after winning the first two matchups. This time around the contest proved to be much like the first meeting that ended with a Buffalo four-point win in a game that went to the wire. Doniphan West held the 9-7 lead after one quarter but a 17-11 second pushed Onaga into halftime up 24-20 as the lead changed hands multiple times throughout the game. It was tied 20-20 with 1:50 left in the first half but Onaga hit the final two shots of the first half to lead at intermission. Second half was much of the same as the first with trading jabs back and forth with shots and Doniphan West took a 34-31 lead early in the fourth but the lead migrated to 42-36 for Onaga only to see Doniphan West close to within three at 45-42 with 30.2 seconds left. A pass ahead from Logan Marten to Ben Kufahl who was on the run to the basketball has a huge play late for the Buffaloes as they got free throws and it was called an intentional foul giving Onaga the ball too. Late free throws from Kufahl them helped Onaga secure the 48-42 road win over Doniphan West.

The win moves Onaga to 14-6 on the season and they finish TVL play 10-2 taking third in the League. Kufahl lead the Buffaloes with 19 points going 6-8 from the line all in the fourth quarter. Tanner Marten chipped in 13 points for Onaga in the win.

Doniphan West with the loss falls to 12-9 on the year and finishes TVL play with a 9-3 mark to take fourth in the League. Levi Watts led the Mustangs hitting five three-pointers and finishing with 17 points, while Devin Taylor added 13 points.

Both teams now turn their attention to the postseason and Sub-State action in Class 1A-Division I. Onaga girls will face Immaculata on Monday, Febraury 27th in the first round of Sub-State at Centralia, while the Buffalo boys will face the winner of Centralia and Immaculata boys later in the week in the Semifinals. Both Doniphan West teams will in the Semifinals of Sub-State against Frankfort late next week.
