The mid-season high school basketball tournaments are all in the book and the final month of the regular season looms as the basketball action continues to heat up across the State of Kansas and the KBCA has released its latest rankings. Fourteen area teams find themselves in the rankings this week including a new team that hasn't been ranked yet this season.

A #1 ranking continues to highlight the area teams in the rankings as the lady Panthers of Centralia remain #1 this week in Class 1A-Division I despite suffering their first loss of the season and now being 12-1 on the year. The Panthers have been ranked #1 all year and after winning the TVL Tournament fell to Hanover in overtime on the road last Tuesday, while beating Blue Valley last Friday. The Hanover lady Wildcats with the OT win over Centralia and a win at Wetmore moved to 10-2 on the year and jump up two spots to #3 in the rankings this week. On the boys side the Hanover boys remain at #3 after wins over Wetmore and Centralia last week to improve to 10-2, while Doniphan West boys are 8-6 after a 1-1 week with a loss to Troy and win at Washington County and come in at #8 in the Class 1A-DI rankings again this week.

Four area teams are ranked in Class 2A with three in the girl’s rankings. The Jefferson County North lady Chargers moved down one spot to #6 after suffering their first loss of the year falling to a bigger Rossville team in the JCN Invitational Championship game putting them at 10-1 this year. Valley Falls lady Dragons remain ranked this week too sitting at 8-3 after taking third at the JCN Invitational and sit at #10 in the polls down two spots. Rejoining the 2A girls rankings this week are the lady Washington County Tigers who are 11-2 after wins over Linn and Doniphan West last week and jump back into the polls at #9. On the boys side the Troy Trojans continue to be in the rankings and moved up one spot to #5 this week moving to 10-1 after wins over Doniphan West and Clifton-Clyde last week.

Nemaha Central girls and boys, along with the Marysville boys continue to highlight the Class 3A rankings for the area teams. The lady Thunder won the Hiawatha girls Invitational title last week and sit at 12-1 on the season and moved up to #4 this week in the polls, up one spot, while the Thunder boys beat Perry Lecompton last week and are 10-3 on the season and are up one spot to #6 in the polls. Marysville boys are 10-2 on the season and were idle last week and remain ranked #2 in the 3A polls.

Class 4A-Division II most of the year has featured two girls Big Seven League teams and yet again this week does again but also a Big Seven boys team has cranked the 4A-DII polls. The lady Tigers of Jeff West are up four spots to #4 with a 9-3 record after a win over Holton last week, while the loss for Holton puts them at 10-3 and moves the lady Wildcats to #6 in the polls down 3 spots. The Holton Wildcat boys after a thrilling overtime win over Jeff West are 9-4 on the season and break into the 4A-DII polls for the first time this season coming in at #9.

As February looms teams continue to put things together for a strong finish to the regular season to prepare for the postseason.
