2017 TVL Basketball Tournament -- Consolation Games

The 2017 Twin Valley League tournament continued on Thursday with the consolation game action at Washington County hgih school. Thursday's action is recapped below.

Girls 

#13 Onaga vs. #9 Blue Valley -- Blue Valley won 35-30 

Blue Valley and Onaga played a wire to wire contest in consolation play of the TVL Tournament and with a 12-7 fourth quarter the Rams took the win 35-30. After one quarter of play it was a 12-7 Blue Valley lead but an 8-3 second quarter by Onaga tied the game at 15-15 at intermission and it was tied at 23-23 entering the fourth quarter. Eight different gals scored on the night for Blue Valley led by Tess Henry who tallied nine points as the Rams moved to 3-6 on the season. Onaga with the loss falls to 0-10 still in search of their first win of the year. Alexis VanDonge led the Buffaloes scoring 11 points hitting 7-11 free throws, while Shay Duer netted eight points. 

#11 Troy vs. #10 Valley Heights -- Valley Heights won 50-34

Balanced scoring and a 14-3 second quarter guided Valley Heights to the 50-34 victory over Troy in consolation TVL Tournament play. Up 13-9 after the first quarter Valley Heights ran their lead out further behind their strong second quarter and with a trio in double figures moved to 3-7 on the season. Sam Vermetten led Valley Heights with 12 points, while Kayla Smith scored 11 and Miranda Ohlde chipped in 10 points. Troy in the loss fell to 1-7 on the year and was led by Lexi Norris who scored 10 points. 

Friday, January 20th

Saturday, January 21st

#12 Axtell vs. #11 Troy 10:00am (consolation game)
#10 Valley Heights vs. #9 Blue Valley 10:00am (consolation game)

Boys

#13 Axtell vs. #12 Blue Valley -- Axtell won 42-30 

Axtell and Blue Valley faced off in consolation action of the TVL Tournament each looking for their first win of the season and a strong second half the Eagles snagged the win 42-30. Both teams started slow and Blue Valley was up 6-4 at the end of the first but a 14-10 second frame gave Axtell an 18-16 halftime lead. The lead grew in the second half for Axtell as they closed out the game with a 24-14 second half to move to 1-9 on the season. Axtell was led by Quinn Buessing who tallied 15 points, while Jonah Porting scored 10 points and Burke Deters added nine points. The loss sends Blue Valley to 0-10 on the year as they were led by a nine point game from Bradley Young. 

#11 Wetmore vs. #7 Linn -- Linn won 55-41

A tight contest back and forth through the first three quarters saw the fourth quarter decide the game as Linn outscored Wetmore 18-7 in the final quarter to grab the 55-41 win. The Bulldogs led by four after one, but Wetmore carried a 22-21 lead into the half only to trail by three to enter the fourth and Linn took the fourth to improve 5-4 on the year. Linn was led by Dillon Cooper who tallied 18 points, while Chase McGatlin who scored 17 points hitting 8-10 free throws. Wetmore with the loss fell to 1-8 on the season and were led in the loss by Alex Potter who scored 10 points, while both Kyle Bloom and Joel Hutfles each netted nine points. 

Friday, January 20th
