Marysville Wrestlers Win Home Jayhusker Invitational

Marysville has been enjoying a strong year on the mats this season and on Saturday they played host to their annual Jayhusker Invitational and the Bulldogs earned another tournament crown winning on their home mats. Only seven schools competed on the day as the weather deterred several from coming to the competition. 

Behind 149 total points Marysville took first place of the seven schools in competition for the day, while Salina Central took second and Beatrice (NE) finished third. Wamego, Republic County, Falls City and Hiawatha finished out the team standings. 

Marysville was led by six first place individual finishers on the day including Jacob Mintzmyer (170lbs), Nick Ackerman (195lbs), Jacob Stryker (182lbs), Derek Roever (145lbs), Gabe Capp (138lbs) and Ethan Crownover (126lbs). Four pinfall victories leading to a 4-0 day helped Mintzmyer to first place on the day winning in 49, 36 and 19 seconds, along with 1:01. Capp also went 4-0 on the registering a pair pinfall wins (:45 and :54), along with a technical fall 17-2 win and 5-0 decision victory. It was 3-0 days for Crownover, Roever and Stryker on the mats to earn their first place finishes. Crownover won by a 3-1 and 6-4 decision, plus a pinfall win in 5:06, while Roever notched two pinfall wins in 2:48 and 1:46, while also winning by 17-1 technical fall. Ackerman went 2-0 with a pinfal win in 57 seconds and a 15-0 technical fall took first on the day. 

Six more Bulldogs were on the medal stand with second place finishes at their home tournament. Seth Mooradian at 285lbs went 4-1 on the day with a pair of pinfall wins to help guide him to second place, while Storm Slupianek (152lbs) posted a 2-1 record with each win coming by pin. Jakob Snellings (106lbs), Joey Bockin (113lbs) and Jonny Crome (120lbs) all took second place after going 1-1, while Garron Champoux (160lbs) took second falling in a pair of games to the only other competitor at his weight class on the day. Going 1-2 Ben Dwerlkotte (220lbs) took third place for Marysville and Brycen Detimore (132lbs) posted a fifth place finish. 

Falls City Tigers were led by Carter Hunzeker (195lbs) who went 1-1 to take second place, while Keegan Hunzeker (170lbs) finished the action 2-2 and placed third at the Jayhusker Invitational. Fourth place finishes were earned by Dylan Sutton (145lbs), Shane Campbell (152lb) and Brandon Banks (220lbs) for the Tigers and Lane Burns (138lbs) posted a fifth place finish. 

Keenan Hinton (220lbs) going 2-1 on the day earned second place for the Hiawatha Red Hawks winning his two bouts by pinfall 2:32 and decision 7-3. Dexter Campbell (170lbs) placed fifth for Hiawatha, while sixth place finishes were earned by Taylor Hughes (132lbs) and Lennon Bolinger (285lbs).
