Jeff West Tigers Take Down Redhawks in Big 7 Basketball Sweep

GIRLS = Jeff West 51, Hiawatha 40

The Jeff West girls won their seventh straight game to improve to 7-1 on the season by beating the visitors from Hiawatha on Tuesday night.  The Lady  Tigers used a 10-0 run to close the first quarter and increased the lead to 25-10 in the second frame before Hiawatha closed the half on their own 10-0 spurt to pull within 25-20.  The Redhawks took a brief 28-27 advantage in the third period before Jeff West used another 10-1 run to close the third quarter and pull away for the win. 

Aaliyah Negonsott scored 8 points in the opening quarter and led Jeff West with 22 points in the game while Faith Becker added 15.  Hiawatha hit six treys after a slow start and fell to 4-3 on the season with Courtney Brockoff and Cariann Kunkel posting 12 and 11 points to lead the way. 

BOYS = Jeff West 59, Hiawatha 39

After a back and forth first quarter, Hiawatha held a 12-11 advantage entering the second stanza.  Unfortunately for the Redhawks, they would never lead again as Jeff West pitched a 14-0 shutout in the second frame and increased the lead through the second half.  Nick Malloy had a career night for the Tigers, making his first three triples of the night and finishing with 32 points, including seven treys. 

Isaiah Schmidt had 11 points and helped Jeff West to a decisive advantage on the boards as the Tigers improved to 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the Big 7.  Joseph Kunkel paced Hiawatha with 15 of his 17 points in the second half and Kyle Tollefson added 8 before the Redhawks fell to 3-4 on the season.
