For the third-straight year the Axtell lady Eagles volleyball team is making a trip to Hays to compete in the Class 1A-Division II State tournament after winning the Sub-State title on Saturday.

The Eagles went into Sub-State play hosted by Blue Valley as the number one seed and earned a first round bye putting them two wins away from the State tournament. In the Semifinals, Axtell won the battle of the birds beating Wetmore in straight sets 25-11, 25-10 moving into the Championship game. Standing in front of the Eagles and a Sub-State title were the host Blue Valley Rams in the Championship contest but it was all Axtell win in straight sets 25-10, 25-3 to win the Sub-State tournament and qualify for State.

Axtell heads to the State tournament 22-15 on the season and ranked #6 in the last KVA Class 1A-DII rankings looking for another top notch performance after taking second last year and third two years ago in Hays. The State tournament is set to begin next Friday, October 28th in Hays and the Eagles will hit the court in the morning session in pool play playing at 8:30am vs. Waverly, 11:30am vs. Cunningham and 12:30pm vs. Wallace County.
