Jeff County North Remains Undefeated With Win Over Pleasant Ridge
By Jonny Kane

A year ago, the Pleasant Ridge Rams gave the Jefferson County North Chargers one of their worst losses of the season in week three taking the contest 52-26. Friday night in Easton the Chargers made sure history didn’t repeat itself, taking down the Rams 22-6.

Both offenses struggled early on, but with 5:51 remaining in the third quarter the Charger defense made the first big play of the game forcing a fumble and recovering near midfield. JCN wasted no time in cashing in on points as three plays later junior quarterback Boston Lane connected with junior receiver Brayden Summers on a 47-yard touchdown to put the Chargers up 6-0.

The Chargers then did their best to help out Pleasant Ridge turning the football over twice in the second quarter, but the Rams couldn’t convert and with 29 seconds left in the half Lane connected with senior receiver Joel Abel on a 2-yard pitch-and-catch to put the Chargers up two scores. Lane connected with junior slot back Anthony Cahill on the two point conversion try and JCN lead 14-0 at the half.

The score before the half proved to be a huge momentum shift as the Chargers went up by three scores out of the break with Lane connecting with Summers again on a touchdown pass, this time from 60 yards out, and JCN led 22-0 after Lane connected with Abel on the two point try.

Pleasant Ridge finally showed some life late in the third, with sophomore defensive back Colton Comer collecting his second interception of the game with 5:51 left in the quarter. Just like the Chargers in the first half the Rams converted off the turnover with sophomore quarterback Eli Schwinn putting Pleasant Ridge on the scoreboard with a one-yard TD run.

The Rams then had their chances in the fourth quarter to try to make a comeback, but the Chargers forced two turnovers in the final quarter to seal the win and move to 3-0 on the season.

Boston Lane was efficient through the air for the Chargers completing 7-of-11 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns, with two of those scores going to Brayden Summers who caught three passes for 110 yards and the two scores.

JCN (3-0, 3-0 NEKL) travels to Oskaloosa in week four, while Pleasant Ridge (1-2, 1-2) travels to McLouth.
