Highland CC Sports Round-Up - Cross Country Teams Nationally Ranked & Volleyball Team Grabs Two Wins

Strong Start to Year Leads to National Ranking for Men & Women's Cross Country Teams

It's been a strong to the season for the Highland Community College men's and women's cross country teams and are both in the NJCAA Division I National rankings. 

The Highland men check in 10th in the poll after entering this season after a 33rd place finish at NJCAA last year the Scotties have compete at the Allen Duals and Augustana Twilight placing third and 11th as a team in each event, respectively. The Scotties have had several strong individual performances this season just after two competitions. 

The Highland women come in ranked 16th in the initial NJCAA poll of the cross country season and just like the men have the women competed at the Allen Duals and Augustana Twilight so far this season finishing third and 17th, respectively at each event as a team. 

Scotties will continue their season on Saturday at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Missouri. 

Highland Volleyball Team Snags Two Wins This Week

It's been a busy week already for the Highland lady Scotties volleyball team with a contest on Monday and Wednesday night and both went into the win column to move them to 9-4 on the season. 

The Scotties started the week with a three set win over Bethany College JV winning 25-15, 25-9, 25-21. Holton product, Megan Rhule filled the stat sheet on the night recording 30 assists, four kills, six aces, a block and six digs. Tyrecia Lukes led the team on the night in kills with 13, while former ACCHS Tiger, Shailey Caudle notched nine kills and seven digs in the win. 

Conference play continued the season for Highland on Wednesday night as they hosted Allen County and the Scotties earned the three set win, 25-13, 25-16, 25-10 to improve to 2-1 in KJCCC play. Lukes again led the team in kills with 10, while recording six blocks. Rhule tallied 27 assists on the night, while the team notched six aces in the win. 

The Scotties continue the season with a conference contest next Wednesday, September 21st at Coffeyville Community College.
