Week one of the high school football season in Kansas didn't disappoint and just in Northeast Kansas there were plenty of competitive games, blowouts and surprises.

Two area teams started number one in several polls in the classification and after week one victories remain in that spot. The Trojans Trojans put on an offensive show at home against Valley Heights winning 58-27 to start the year 1-0 and remain ranked #1 in all five rankings listed below in Class 2-1A. Fellow Twin Valley League team in the Washington County Tigers join the Trojans in several polls after starting their year with a 50-0 win over Doniphan West. The Tigers come in ranked #3 in the Topeka-Capital Journal and #5 by CatchitKansas and Kansasprepfootball.com. Jackson Heights after a week drubbing of Immaculata 44-0 is also getting attention in the 2-1A polls.

The other area team that started the season ranked #1 was the Hanover Wildcats in 8-Man DII and they they took care of Lebo 22-0 to start the year 1-0. Wildcats come in this week #1 in four of the five polls listed below, while checking in at #2 in the CatchitKansas rankings. Frankfort Wildcats are the only other area team getting attention in the 8-Man DII rankings checking in at #10 in the CatchitKansas Top 10.

After a big 21-14 win in week one over Holton the Atchison Redmen have gotten people's attention in the polls coming in at #5 in the VarsityKansas and Kansasprepfootball.com 4A-DI polls and #6 in the CatchitKansas rankings. In Class 4A-DII the Holton Wildcats started the season ranked in some polls but have fell out of the rankings after a week one loss to Atchison but are still getting attention and consideration in the polls.

No area team as yet to break into the Class 3A polls but both Nemaha Central and Sabetha after week one routes continue to get attention and be consider for the rankings. The Thunder rolled past ACCHS 66-0, while Sabetha took down Centralia 40-14.

Week two expects to be filled for more great football action as teams look to continue week one momentum or respond from a week one loss.
