Only two Northeast Kansas League teams were in action on Thursday night in legion baseball action as Atchison hosted Oskaloosa and the teams split their double header. Oskaloosa grabbed game one 5-2, while Atchison responded in game two to earn the spilt with a 10-0 win in four innings.
Game one saw Atchison jump on Oskaloosa early with a pair of runs in the first inning, but that was all they would score in the game and Oskaloosa capitalized on their opportunities later in the contest. In the third Oskaloosa snagged the lead scoring four runs on five walks and three singles to lead 4-2 and added a run in the fifth to take game one 5-2.
Atchison responded in game two in a big way taking advantage of many Oskaloosa miscues early to take an 8-0 lead after just two innings. Multiple errors, wild pitches and hit batters by Oskaloosa in the first few innings with Atchison sprinkling in some hits led to the 8-0 Atchison lead. A run in the third and another in the fourth finished the game at 10-0 in four innings giving Atchison the win.
The split moves Atchison to 11-11 on the season and 10-8 in the League, while Oskaloosa fell to 9-17 on the season and 6-10 in League action.
The NEKL legion baseball season continues on Friday night as Corning travels to Silver Lake for a League double header and Leavenworth hosts McLouth in a non-league twinbill.
