Valley Heights Girls & Washington County Boys Win 2A Track Regional Titles (Full Results)

Area teams in Class 2A continued their track seasons at Valley Heights for Regionals and eight area schools are sending at least one competitor to the State competition in Wichita next week as the Regional was highlighted by a pair of area teams winning the Regional titles. 

The host Valley Heights Mustangs earned the top girls team finish by 34 points on the day led by six Regional individual event wins. Shelby Vermetten notched two of those event wins for the lady Mustangs as she tossed her way to wins in the shot put (38'09.50) and discus (136'4), while Skyler Saunders won the high jump (5'2'), Kayla Smith took first in the triple jump (36'10.50), Brandi Jo Roepke earned first in the long jump (17'08.50) and the lady Mustangs won the 4x100 meter relay (51.86). Saunders also qualified for State in the triple jump by taking third and in the pole vault with a fourth place finish, while Smith took second in the 100 meter dash and long jump and fourth in the 200 meter dash. Nicole Weyer also qualified for State for Valley Heights with a fourth place finish in the long jump. 

The Valley Heights boys were led by Adrian Pishny who won the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:33.25, while the boys 4x800 and 4x100 meter relay teams each earned a spot at State by registering fourth place finishes and Harrison Blaske took fourth in the boys triple jump.

The boys Regional team title went to the Washington County Tigers who won by 31 points and were led by seven Regional title winners. In the field events Levi Gauby, Dawson Miller, Jerrod Hoover, Hunter Kier and Jae Eaton each won an event for the Tigers. Gauby took the gold in the pole vault (12'6) and also placed second in the triple jump, while Miller won the javelin (159'10). Kier snagged first in the discus (151'8) and Hoover won the high jump (6'2), while also taking second in the 110 meter hurdles and Eaton won the shot put (50'2) and earned second in the discus. Cole Thompson won the 200 meter dash for Washington County with a time of 24.05 and also placed third in the 100 meter dash and long jump, while Jon Harding took first in the 110 meter hurdles (16.83) and second in the 300 meter hurdles. Other State qualifiers for the Tigers in the boy’s competition include - the 4x100 meter relay team who took second place, Konner Penning who earned second in the shot put and Eric Miller who finished fourth in the pole vault. 

Courtney Moore with a pair of second place finishes led the lady Tigers, placing second in the 100 meter hurdles and pole vault, while also taking fourth in the 300 meter hurdles. Brooke Tuma tossed her way to second in the girl’s discus and Jenna Hennerberg earned the silver in the shot put. While the lady Tigers took fourth in the 4x100 meter relay, while Courtney Bekemeyer placed fourth in the shot put. 

The girls 4x800 meter relay for the Jefferson County North lady Chargers posted a time of 10:44.19 to bring home the gold and lead JCN at Regionals. Second place finishes were earned by Brayden Summers in the boys 1600 meter run, Braden Schneider in the boy’s javelin, Ravyn Jobbins in the girl’s javelin and the JCN boy’s 4x400 meter relay team. Carissa McAfee with a pair of third place finishes in the girls 800 and 1600 meter runs qualified for State, while Cole Bryant took third in the boy’s 400 meter dash and the lady Chargers 4x100 meter relay team snagged third place. Julie Schrick, Joel Abel and Jacob Schrick each posted fourth place finishes in the girls 400 meter dash, boys 300 meter hurdles and boys javelin, respectively. 

A leap of 42'4 pushed Wyatt Olberding to the gold in the boy’s triple jump giving him the best finish on the day at Regionals for Jackson Heights. Both Faith Little and Westin Jacobsen qualified for State in multiple events. Little took second in the girls 800 and 1600 meter runs, while Jacobsen placed second in the boys 200 and 400 meter dashes. The girls 4x400 meter relay team with a second place finish and the boys 4x400 team with a fourth place finish each qualified for State, while Abigale Williams also placed fourth in the girls high jump.

A trio of third place finishes led McLouth at Regionals as Jack Arnett took the bronze in the boys 110 meter hurdles, Dimitri Tullis finished third in the boys triple jump and Tristan Funk place third in the boys 1600 meter run and fourth in the 3200. Anna Moore is the lone lady Bulldog to qualify for State finishing fourth in the girls 100 meter hurdles. 

Daspin Bruning qualified for State for Horton in two events after a third place finish in the girl’s shot put and fourth place showing the javelin. 

Troy is sending Amanda Stock to State as she took third in the high jump, while Valley Falls will be sending Justin Myers to State after a fourth place finish in the boys 800 meter run.
