Finally hitting the ball field in Valley Falls for softball Regional action on Thursday all the action took place in one night the host Dragons are headed back to State after claiming the 2-1A Regional title.

In the opening round of Wabaunsee topped Lyndon 14-9 and Burlingame edged Troy 5-4 to move into the Semifinals.

The Dragons as the one seed in their home Regional drew Wabaunsee in the Semifinals and scored early and often on their way to a 13-2 in five innings win. Valley Falls put up three runs in the first, added four in the second, two in the third, a run in the fourth and finished the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth after Wabaunsee scored their two runs in the top of the inning. Spear heading the Dragons offense and dominate performance was Allison Kearney who had four hits and eight RBI's in the win, all while pitching all five innings for the win in the circle giving up just two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.

McLouth won the other Semifinal contest cruising past Burlingame 16-0 in four innings to earn the right to play Valley Falls in the Regional Championship.

The Dragons had already played the Bulldogs in a double header earlier this season sweeping that series with a pair of five run wins, but a win this time wouldn't come as easy. McLouth broke through first in the Regional Championship scoring a run in the top of the third but Valley Falls finally broke through themselves in the bottom of the fifth inning to score three and despite on four hits in the game the Dragons earned the 3-1 win. Kearney again led the offense with two hits, while Taylor Long had a pair of RBI's. Josee Neiberger earned the win in the circle for the Dragons going all seven innings giving up just one run on six hits with four strikeouts.

With the win the Dragons are 19-4 on the season (accredited a win via the BYE in the first round of Regionals) and have won 14-straight games claiming the Regional title and bid to the Class 2-1A State tournament. It's the first trip to State since 2011 for Valley Falls.

Valley Falls will make the trip to Pratt next week for the State Tournament to be played at Green Sports Complex starting Thursday, May 26th.
