Finally a beautiful day for softball action rolled along during the week and the 4A-DII Regional in Holton commenced with four teams eager to make a run at a bid at the State tournament. The action proved to be some crazy and good games as Hayden came from behind to win 7-2 over Jeff West in the Semifinals and Holton routed Maur Hill-Mount Academy 19-0 in three innings in the other Semifinal. That set up a Wildcat Championship and it didn't disappoint as Holton and Hayden traded blows in the game and need extra innings to decide the Regional Champ, as Hayden won 12-10 in eight innings.

The day started off with Hayden and Jeff West squaring off and the defending 4A-DII softball champs Jeff West were looking to make a push back to State but Hayden had other ideas. The Tigers pounced early getting a lead-off hit by Emma Broxterman in the bottom of the first and with two-outs Gabrielle Overtstreet delivered an RBI single to give Jeff West a 1-0 lead. Jeff West made it 2-0 in the bottom of the second with three hits in the frame. Hayden had early base runners but didn't break though until the third getting one run but also spoiled an opportunity to add more, until three hits came in the fourth and that produced two more Hadyen runs giving them the 3-2 lead. After early offense for Jeff West the Tigers were shut down as Hayden brought in Kara Rameriz to pitch and she only allowed four base runners in five and one-third of innings, while also sparking the Wildcat offense. Two more runs in the sixth and seventh secured the 7-2 win for Hayden and five errors in the late innings hurt the Tigers ending their season at 10-11.

Jeff West had just six hits with two coming by Broxterman, while Faith Beckert took the loss in six and two-thirds surrendering all seven runs on 12 hits, one walk and struckout four. Hayden was led by a 13 hit attack with a two game for Rameriz, Jensen May, Victoria Gutierrez and Ally Gales, while Rameriz pitched the final five and one-third innings for the win giving up just one-hit and two walks, surrendering no runs.

In the second half of the Semifinals the host of the Regionals Holton put on an early offensive show against Maur Hill and cruised to the 19-0 win in just three innings. The Holton Wildcats started things rolling in the bottom of the first with eight hits and five Maur Hill errors to produce 12 runs; the inning was highlighted by a two RBI single by Lauryn Moore, RBI singles from Sarah Lierz, Quinn Holaday and Bond, while Casi Van Ausdall delivered a two RBI double. In the bottom of the second inning it was much of the same for Holton adding seven runs on five hits, three walks and another Raven error. Van Ausdall hit a three-run homer and Annalyss Phillips added a triple in the second inning. After taking down side in the top of the third Sarah Bond completed the three inning perfect game in the circle with five strikeouts to earn the 19-0 win for Holton.

Phillips led the Holton offense going 3-3 in the game with a double and triple, while Van Ausdall finished 2-2 with a walk, three-run homer, three runs scored and five RBI's. Bond and Moore each added a 2-3 performance at the plate in the win over Maur Hill, Lauryn also recorded four RBI's.

The Holton and Hayden win set up a battle of Wildcats for the 4A-DII Regional title and it proved to be a great game. Holton looked to continue their offensive momentum in the Championship and early they did posting four runs in the first behind three hits including a two-run homer by Phillips and a solo homer by Holaday and Holton added another run in the second off Hayden starter Amber Thompson for an early 5-0 lead. Bond started again for Holton and was cruising early but Hayden finally got on the board in the fourth with a solo homer by Alayna Regier but it was the fifth inning that changed the game in Hayden's favor as they batted around to produce six runs and take a 7-5 lead. Holton got a run back on an RBI double by Holaday in the bottom of the fifth. The runs continued for both teams in the sixth as Hayden scored two in the top of the sixth but Holton regained the lead with a four-run bottom of the sixth, which included a three RBI triple by Phillips. Leading 10-9 going into the top of the seventh Holton was looking to close the game but a lead-off b=double by Regier had Hayden in business after two-outs the runner was at third with two-outs for Hayden and a RBI single was delivered by Bri Roush to tie game at 10-10 and Holton unable to score in the seventh sent the game to the eighth. Hayden again pounced and plated two in the top of the eighth and finished off the game for the 12-10 win in eight innings.

Hayden was led by Regier who finished 4-5 with four RBI's, two doubles and a home run, while Gutierrez was 3-4 with three RBI's and three runs scored. Rameriz once again pitched well earning the win in six and two-thirds innings of relief for Hayden.

The top of the order led Holton in the loss as Phillips was 3-5 with a two-run homer, double, triple, five RBI's and three runs scored, while Gabby Porras, Van Ausdall, Holaday and Makenzie Moore each had two hits. Holton with the loss closed out their season 12-10 as Regional runner-ups.
