The Lady Prospects 17U Red team headed down to Wichita this past weekend to compete in the Battle for the Forum MAYB tournament. The team composed of Faith Brintle(Council Grove), Daspin Bruning(Horton), Greta Costlow(Santa Fe Trail), Lauren Delker(Spring Hill), Mariah Grizzle(Desoto), Taylor Hunter(Metro Academy), Piper Johnson(Santa Fe Trail), Dakota McQueen(Wetmore), Kendall Michalski(Washburn Rural) and Annabelle Vaught(Jeff County North), started off the weekend with pool play on Saturday.

LIFE Prep Academy was a team full of foreign exchange students who were very skilled, but a late run by the Lady Prospects propelled them to a 30-27 win. Next up was TeamWork Oklahoma who turned out to be the most athletic team the Lady Prospects would face all weekend. Making big plays down the stretch turned out to be the difference for the Lady Prospects, as they defeated TeamWork, 43-38.

A young talented team from southwest Kansas came out hot against the Lady Prospects in their 3rd pool play game against the Eclipse SW 2019. It seemed early the Eclipse SW couldn’t miss from long range and they jumped out early on the Lady Prospects. A few crucial late turnover cost the Lady Prospects as they fell, 43-49. No time to dwell as Kansas MTXE was next up for the Lady Prospects. LP exerted their dominance early and ran away with an easy 53-34 win.

The Lady Prospects finished pool play at 3-1 which earned them the #2 seed in bracket play on Sunday. Four games on Saturday and less than inspired play, looked like it would cost the Lady Prospects against the #3 seed, LIFE Prep Academy. LP found themselves down at halftime, 16-19. A little halftime speech woke the Lady Prospects up and quickly turned the game around, running away with a 41-31 win, to advance to the championship game and a rematch with the Eclipse SW 2019.

Destined not to repeat the previous days fortunes, the Lady Prospects jumped out early on the Eclipse SW, 16-6. The Eclipse fought back to tie the game at 20 with two minutes remaining in the first half. However the last two minutes belonged to the Lady Prospects as they finished the half on a 9-1 run, to take a 29-21 lead into halftime. Suffocating defense and offensive execution, gained LP total control of the second half. The Eclipse SW were held to just 7 total points the second half, leading the Lady Prospects to a 48-28 win in the championship game.

LP finished the weekend at 5-1 and tournament championship. They’ll play again June 4-5 in the USJN Battle at the Border in Overland Park, KS.
