Sabetha Girls & Boys Win Hiawatha Track Invitational

Despite Mother Nature playing a factor all week in cancelling high school sports all across Northeast Kansas and the State track action was able to take place at Hiawatha on Thursday with several area teams in action. 

The meet was amended because of the weather has the long jump, triple jump, javelin and pole vault events did not take place. 

Sabetha came out on top with the girls and boys both coming out on top of the Hiawatha Invitational. The Sabetha girls took first place with 103 total points winning by 32 points as Maur Hill-Mount Academy took second and Hiawatha finished only 1.5 points behind Maur Hill for third place. Holton and ACCHS girls rounded out the Top five taking fourth and fifth. To finish out the girls team standings Troy took sixth, Doniphan West seventh, Immaculata eighth, Pleasant Ridge ninth and Horton tenth. The Sabetha boys notched 117 points to take the Hiawatha Invite crown winning by 45 points over Pleasant Ridge who took second and Maur Hill finished third. Doniphan West and Hiawatha rounded out the Top five taking fourth and fifth. To finish out the boys team standings Holton took sixth, Troy seventh, ACCHS eighth and Horton ninth. 

For the Sabetha Bluejays in the girls action Megan Meyer raced to first place in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:45.78, while the lady Bluejays also won the 4x100 meter relay behind a time of 53.12. The Bluejay boys won both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays posting times of 3:47.77 and 9:16.30, while Mason Engelken won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 42.37. 

Doniphan West Mustangs had four first place finishes on the day as Kenzie Blevins won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes sprinting to times of 12.81 and 27.18. While in the boys action Kody Collins won the 110 meter hurdles (15.40) and Carson Lackey won the 100 meter dash (11.40). 

The host Hiawatha Red Hawks had Emily Gartner led their performances as she won the shot put and discus with tosses of 36'05.75 and 132'00, while Gavin Lierz won the boys 400 meter dash with a time of 51.34. 

A trio of golds were earned by Holton as Carson Meerpohl won the boys high jump (5'04), Andrew Harrison took first in the boys discus (134'05) and Courtney Boswell won the girls 300 meter hurdles (53.11). 

ACCHS also had three first place finishes as Beba Scholz raced to the first place in the 1600 meter run (6:00.99), Jaycee Ernzen won the girls 400 meter dash (1:03.55) and the lady Tigers took first in the 4x400 meter relay (4:19.37).

Pleasant Ridge had all three of their event winners come in the boys competition as Jagar Haack won the shot put (46'11.50), Luke Oatney won the 1600 meter run (5:04.90) and the Ram boys won the 4x100 meter relay (46.43). 

Maur Hill had a pair of gold medal wins as the lady Ravens won the 4x800 meter relay (10:22.77) and Jack Siebert won the boys 3200 meter run (10:28.39). 

Troy Trojans also claimed a pair of first place finishes as Amanda Stock won the girls high jump (5'00) and Tysen Williams won the boys 200 meter dash (23.65).
