Vermillion & Onaga Highlight Vermillion Boys Golf Invitational

On what proved to be a beautiful day area teams teed it up at Cool Springs golf course in Onaga on Monday competing in the Vermillion Invitation host by Centralia and several area golfers put together solid performances.

The host Vermillion took home the top team performance on the day with their first team posting a four-man score of 348 finishing 13 strokes ahead of all the other teams. Onaga brought home second place with a four-man team score of 361, while the Holton JV team took third place with a 394 team score. Sabetha JV, Washington County, Vermillion’s second team and Royal Valley finished fifth, sixth and seventh with team scores of 398, 413, 442 and 482, respectively. Linn and Valley Heights both had competitors in action but did not field a full four-man team.

Vermillion’s quartet that posted the team score of 348 all registered Top 10 finishes individually led by Ryan Vernon who took second carding an 80 on the day. Jason Gore and Otto Nermo finished fourth and fifth placed with rounds of 87 and 89, respectively, while Austin Hardwick placed seventh with a 92.

Onaga Buffalo, Tyler Fleming carded the best round of the day with a 79 which was six strokes better than all but one competitor as he just edged out Vernon of Vermillion to take first place individually on the day. Jace Fischer and Trenton Ross also grabbed Top 10 finishes for Onaga finishing third and tenth with rounds of 86 and 95.

Linn saw two of their three golfers in action on the day tallying Top 10 finishes placing sixth and eighth as Andrew Meyer and Chase McGatlin carded rounds of 89 and 93.

Washington County also had a Top 10 finisher as Hunter Johnson behind a 93 took home ninth place.
