Jeff West Girls Powered by Strong Second Half, Boys Use Hot Start In Sweep of ACCHS
By Jonny Kane

The Jeff West Lady Tigers used a strong defensive effort in the second half forcing seven ACCHS turnovers in a 53-28 win Friday night in Meriden.

Jeff West outscored ACCHS 29-11 in the second half and forced 14 turnovers in the game.

The first quarter was dominated by the post play of Jeff West sophomore Mariah Murdie, who compiled six points to give the Tigers in red a 16-8 lead heading into the second.

ACCHS battled back holding Jeff West to just eight second quarter points, but ACCHS still faced a 24-17 deficit at the break.

Jeff West took control of the game with a 12-3 third quarter to go up by 16 heading into the fourth, and an injury to ACCHS senior Mallory Eckert proved to be too much in the end.

BOYS

Some nights, all it takes is a spark to get teams rolling.

For Jeff West it came in a big way as a first quarter dunk by junior Kendall Sutton set the tone in a 65-46 win over ACCHS.

Sutton’s dunk was a part of a 17-2 first quarter for Jeff West, who pushed the lead out to 21 at halftime, 32-11.

After Jeff West pushed the lead out to 27 midway through the third quarter, ACCHS tried to battle back behind seven points from senior Trevor Smith, but the hole was too deep to climb out of.

Jeff West (5-12, 5-8 Big 7) hits the road for a league matchup with Holton (7-9, 6-6) Tuesday. ACCHS (0-17, 0-13) takes a break before traveling to Hiawatha (4-12, 3-9) next Friday.
