Atchison Wrestling Takes Second at KCA League Meet

The Atchison Redmen wrestling team, behind eight top three finishes, took second at the Kansas City Atchison league meet Thursday night at Washington High School.

The Redmen finished the meet with 148 total team points, 89 points behind champion Schlagle, and 35 points ahead of third place Washington.

Atchison, led by one first place finish by Caleb Pierce at 170 pounds, recorded four second and three third place finishes on the day.

In the 138 pound weight class Spencer Vice picked up the first silver medal of the meet for the Redmen going 1-1, while Collin Moranz (3-1), James Boatwright (2-1), and Riley Smith (2-1) followed with second place finishes in the 152, 182, and 220 pound weight classes, respectively.

Gio Burk at 145 pounds and Alex Bindel at 160 pounds each picked up one win apiece on their way to bronze medals, while Gavin Rebant, despite going 0-2 for the tournament, also took home third at 113 pounds.

Andrew Wilson rounded things out for the Redmen going 1-3 in the 195 pound division to claim fourth.

Atchison next heads to Desoto Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19-20, for the Class 4A Regional Tournament.
