The final month of the regular season is underway and teams are looking to build momentum to close out the regular season and gear up for the postseason. In Onaga the Twin Valley League slate continued with the Buffaloes hosting Doniphan West and the Mustangs headed home with a pair of wins as the girls just edged Onaga 37-34 and the boys won 57-44.

Onaga came out the gates quick with a 6-0 run over the first 1:40 of game play and took advantage of early turnovers by Doniphan West but the Buffaloes held just an 11-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. After trading points in the second quarter Doniphan West took their first lead at 17-16 but held it for just five seconds before the Buffaloes took it back and went into halftime up 22-17. Both teams struggled shooting in the second half but the Mustangs stymied Onaga enough to win the third quarter 10-3 and take a 27-25 lead, a lead they would not give up despite Onaga making the close down to the wire, after Doniphan West had appeared to start to pull away in the fourth. Mustang ultimately picked up the 37-34 win.

More than 50% of the offense in the contest came from two players as Doniphan West senior, Kenzie Blevins and Onaga junior, Shay Duer combined for 37 of the 71 points scored in the game. Blevins in just her third game back from injury posted 20 points, scoring 13 in the first half earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. With the win the Mustangs snap a nine-game losing streak to move to 3-9 on the year and 2-6 in the TVL.

Onaga with the loss fell to 1-13 on the year and 0-6 in the TVL, as Duer led the team with a new season high 17 points.

In the boy's contest Doniphan West jumped out to a 5-0 lead but Onaga then made it 5-4 early but the Buffaloes were outscored 8-3 in the rest of the quarter and trailed 13-9 after one frame. The lead grew to double digits by halftime as Doniphan West held a 25-14 advantage at intermission and then pushed the lead to 20-points in third quarter, but Onaga fought back in the fourth. A 20-point fourth quarter by the Buffaloes pushed them back into the game cutting the lead all the way down to seven-points but time ultimately ran short and Doniphan West hit free throws going 22-25 from the line to secure the 57-44 win.

Senior, Cooper Leach led the Mustangs on the night posting 22 points, with 12 in the first half and eight from the free throw line, going 8-8 at the charity stripe helping him earn Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" on KMZA. Austin Taylor joined Leach in double figures scoring 13 points all in the second half and mostly from the free throw line as he was 9-10 from the line, while Justin Clark chipped in nine points. The win pushes Doniphan West to 10-3 on the season and 7-1 in the TVL.

The loss for Onaga sends them to 5-9 on the year and 2-4 in League play as Logan Marten led the Buffaloes on the night tying his season high with 19 points with 15 in the second half. Jackson Glessner added nine points for Onaga.

League play continues for both teams on Friday as Onaga hosts Axtell and Doniphan West will travel to Linn.
