Centralia Volleyball Wins Valley Falls Invite

The volleyball season is in its final month and teams are looking to build momentum for the postseason in the coming weeks and several area teams squared off on Saturday at the Valley Falls Invitational. 

Leading the charge was the Centralia Panthers as they picked up another trophy for the case by going 5-0 at the Valley Falls Invitational to win the tournament and continue another strong season on the volleyball court. The Panthers picked up straight set wins over McLouth, Jackson Heights (25-11, 25-19), Maur Hill (25-18, 25-10) and Axtell (25-19, 25-14), but needed three sets to top the host Valley Falls Dragons (26-24, 19-25, 27-25). 

Valley Falls only loss on the day was in that tough three set contest with Centralia as the Dragons finished the day 4-1 for second place in the tournament. The Dragons topped Maranatha (25-22, 25-24), Oskaloosa (25-9, 25-13) and Maur Hill (25-23, 25-20) all in straight sets, but had to use three sets to earn the win against Axtell (20-25, 25-23, 25-16). 

The Axtell Eagles ended the competition going 3-2 with the losses to Centralia and Valley Falls, while beating Maranatha (25-18, 25-15), Oskaloosa (25-15, 25-11) and Maur Hill (25-15, 25-15). Fourth place was earned by Maur Hill who finished the day 2-3, beating McLouth (25-8, 25-10) and Jackson Heights (27-25, 25-22) for their two wins. 

Maranatha finished the day 3-2 but took fifth on the day as they beat Oskaloosa (25-9, 25-12), Jackson Heights (25-10, 25-14) and McLouth (25-10, 25-11). 

 

Jackson Heights put together a 2-3 day at the Valley Falls Invitational finishing sixth with wins over Oskaloosa (25-7, 25-16) and McLouth (25-18, 20-25, 25-13). Oskaloosa and McLouth finished seventh and eighth place with 1-4 and 0-5 records, respectively. The Bears lone win came against McLouth in straight sets (25-22, 25-10).
