Hiawatha Girls & McLouth Boys Claim Top Team Honors at Horton Cross Country Invite

The season is getting down to the final regular season meets in cross country and many area teams came together in Horton on Thursday to compete against each and other and many schools saw plenty of great performances. 

The Hiawatha Red Hawk girls claimed the top team spot on the day, led by three Top 10 performers and three gals finishing in the Top 20. While, ACCHS finished second as a team led by a pair of Top 10 finishes. Rossville girls took third, followed by Royal Valley in fourth and Sabetha in fifth. On the boys side of competition McLouth earned the top spot over Sabetha who finished second. 

Hiawatha Red Hawk girls on their way to first place as a team had the best individual girl’s performance on the day as Elizabeth Kettler posted time of 21:30.84 to win the Horton Invitational. Emma Williams and Aly Shamburg joined her in the Top 10 placing sixth and eighth, respectively with times of 22:21.28 and 22:43.09. Kailey Davis and Mary Rosa finished in the Top 20 for the Red Hawks placing 14th and 16th in the girl’s competition, respectively. A second and fourth place finish by Brandt Houk and Gavin Lierz led the Red Hawks boys as the duo posted times of 18:02.84 and 18:19.96, respectively. 

First place in the boy’s race was earned by Maur Hill-Mount Academy Raven, Jack Siebert who behind a time of 17:57.37 earned the win at the Horton Invitational. Grace Siebert had a strong showing for the Ravens in the girl’s race as she registered a time of 22:17.78 to finish fourth. 

The first place boy’s squad in McLouth was led by a pair of Top 10 finishers as Braeden Pfau and Tristan Funk placed ninth and tenth with times of 18:45.40 and 18:50.86, while Jordan Butler placed 13th for the Bulldogs. Ceara Funk registered the lone Top 20 finish for the lady Bulldogs racing to a 13th place finish on the day. 

ACCHS Tigers were led by a third place finish by Beba Scholz who posted a time of 22:07.62 in the girls race to help the Tigers finish second as a team. Madison Bissel earned a tenth place finish with a time of 22:54.11, while Mackenzie Forbes placed 19th. 

Three Top 10 finishes led the Sabetha Bluejays at the Horton Invitational with fifth place finishes by Keegan Cox and Taryn Schuette leading the charge. Cox raced to a time of 18:20.31 in the boy’s competition, while Schuette posted a time of 22:20.09 for fifth in the girls race. Megan Meyer behind a time of 22:51.52 earned ninth with her performance. Braeden Cox grabbed a 15th place finish, while Emily Strathman finished 20th also for the Bluejays. 

A pair of Top 10 showings in the boys race led Riverside as Cole and Tristan Hinton notched times of 18:13.34 and 18:32.05 to place third and sixth. 

Faith Little again had another top flight performance for the Jackson Heights Cobras as she raced to a time of 21:47.99 to place second in the girls competition and was the only Cobra to finish in the Top 20 on the day. 

Royal Valley Panthers finished with five Top 20 finishers on the day, three in the girls race and two on the boys side. Katie Hanshaw led the lady Panthers placing 12th, while Kaytlyn Gooderl and Kikto Thomas placed 15th and 18th. In the boys action Garrett Hicks and Ninahii Frisby placed 17th and 18th for Royal Valley.

An eighth place finish by Aaron Achten who posted a time of 18:42.43 led the Wetmore Cardinals on the day, while Chanler Morfitt grabbed a 19th place finish.

Marysville had one Top 20 finisher on the day as Skylar Widmer placed 12th in the boy’s competition at the Horton Invite.
