Six Area Players Set to Compete in the 2015 Kansas Shrine Bowl This Weekend

For the 42nd year the Kansas Shrine Bowl will take place and in 2015 six area athletes will participate in the game this Saturday, July 25th at 7:00pm at Lewis Field Stadium on the campus of Fort Hays State University.

The six area senior athletes selected to the 2015 Kansas Shrine Bowl include: Axtell Eagle, Andrew Feldkamp; Centralia Panther, Joey Ferron; Hanover Wildcat, Ethan Fritschi; Holton Wildcat, Cooper Allen; Horton Charger, Trey Dishon and Troy Trojan, Tristan Speer. Five of the six players will compete on the East squad, while Fristchi will play for the West team.

Axtell Eagle, Andrew Feldkamp helped the Eagles back to the playoffs in his senior season and helped lead them to the Sub-State round of the 8-Man DII playoffs for the first time since 2008. The Eagles finished the season 9-3 on the year and Andrew earned All-State honors at the 8-Man level, along with first team All-TVL at offensive line and defensive line. Feldkamp blocked for an Eagle offense that posted 331 ypg and 47.7 ppg, while on defense he posted 53 tackles on the year.

Centralia Panther, Joey Ferron provided a big presence for the Panthers in their first year in Class 3A, helping the team finish 9-2 and win the TVL for the 17th straight year, while making the 3A playoffs and winning the opening round. Ferron who earned 3A All-State honors, was named to the Top 33 players in the State by the Topeka Capital Journal and earned first team All-TVL on both the offensive and defensive lines. During the season Ferron helped block for a Panther offense that posted 397.6 ypg (360.3 rushing ypg) and 38.2 ppg, while posting 61 tackles, eight sacks, two fumble recoveries and a blocked field goal on defense.

Hanover Wildcat, Ethan Fritschi helped lead the Wildcats back to the 8-Man Championship game level this year as the Wildcats finish as 8-Man DI runner-ups with a 12-1 record. Fritschi earned All-State honors at the 8-Man level and picked up first team All-TVL honors on both the offensive and defensive lines, also. During the year Ethan led the way up front in the trenches for a Hanover offense that posted 371.2 ypg and 58 ppg, while on defense posting 54 tackles (10 TFL), six sacks, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, three blocked punts and a blocked field goal.

Holton Wildcat, Cooper Allen finished off this Wildcat football career helping Holton to a 9-2 record and an appearance in the 4A-DII playoffs, making the Sectional round. Allen not only earned All-State honors at 4A, but was named to the Top 11 in the State by the Topeka Capital Journal, while earning first team offensive and defensive line honors in the Big Seven. Allen was one of the leading blockers on a Wildcat offense that posted 410.1 ypg (378.5 rushing ypg) and averaged 40.4 ppg. On defense, Allen posted 38 tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery.

Horton Charger, Trey Dishon helped the Chargers off to one of their best year as Horton finished 7-2 and won the Northeast Kansas League title and made the 3A playoffs. Dishon earned All-State 3A honors and was named first team All-NEKL at tight end, defensive end and kicker. Trey made is presence felt in all three phases of the game for Horton, as he had 17 carries for 75 yards and a TD on offense with 11 receptions, also for 196 yards and a TD. On defense, Dishon registered 47 tackles, 4.5 sacks (18 hurries), an interception, fumble recovery, two blocked punts and a blocked field goal. In the kicking game he was 16-21 on PAT's and 1-1 on field goals (25 yards), while also having kickoff duties.

Troy Trojan, Tristan Speer helped Troy to new heights this season with his teammates as the Trojans made the 2-1A Sub-State level in the playoffs for the first time in school history and finished the year 10-2. Speer picked up All-State honors in 2-1A, while also earning first team All-TVL honors at quarterback. On the year Speer led a Troy offense that averaged 42 ppg and 416 ypg, while breaking the single season passing TD record at Troy in the process. Speer finished with 2,441 yards on 168-252 (66.7% completion) with 36 TD's and just two interceptions, while rushing for 437 yards on 84 carries with 11 TDs. On defense, Tristan notched 34 tackles with four sacks and a fumble recovery.
