KS Class 1A 2015 Regional Track - Valley Heights Girls & Hanover Boys Earn Regional Titles to Highlight Area State Qualifiers

Class 1A Regional Track Results - Valley Heights Regional

The Twin Valley League dominated the top spots at the Class 1A track Regional at Valley Heights, as all the TVL schools competing are sending at least one competition to the State track competition.

Valley Heights girls and Hanover boys led the day with the top overall team performances winning the Regional team titles. The lady Mustangs picked up the win by 10-points over Centralia, while the Hanover boys won by 44 points, while Valley Heights took second.

Leading the charge for such a dominate team performance for the Hanover boys was six first place event wins, including a relay title sweep. The Wildcats behind times of 43.36, 3:33.28 and 8:31.45 sweep the relay crowns winning the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800. Evan Zabokrtsky picked up two golds in the sprints winning the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 11.40 and 23.19, while Preston Jueneman won the 400 meter dash posting a time of 51.43 and took third in the 200 meter dash. Matthew White picked up a pair of silver medals for Hanover in the 100 and 400 meter dashes, while Ethan Fristchi took second in the shot put and Devin Jueneman earned a second place in the triple jump and third in the long jump. Trey Loshe also qualified for State for the Wildcat boys after placing fourth in the 800 meter run.

The lady Wildcats had two Regional champs on the day as the 4x800 meter relay team won the gold with a time of 10:35.47 and Claire Zarybnicky won the girls 800 meter run after posting a time of 2:31.22, while the 4x400 meter relay team also earned a spot at State after a third place finish.

Leading the charge for the lady Mustangs of Valley Heights was three first place finishes as Shelby Vermetten tossed her way to a pair of them with marks of 37'02 and 117'01 to win the shot put and discus. Kayla Smith picked up the other Regional title for the lady Mustangs as she won the triple jump (35'10.75), while taking second in the 100 meter dash and third in the long jump. Sidney Blackburn qualified for State in three events with a second place in the shot put and third place finishes in the discus and javelin. Skyler Sanders and Nicole Weyer also will be going to State for Valley Heights as they finished second in the high jump and fourth in the long jump, respectively, while the 4x100 meter relay took second also on the day.

The Valley Heights boys were led by Elijah Smith who qualified for State in four events and won all four of them. With times of 14.97 and 40.77 Smith won the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, while posting leaps of 21'10.50 and 46'06 to win the long and triple jumps. Adrian Pishny earned a spot at State after a third place finish in the 1600 meter run and second place in the 3200, while Anthony Edwards and Logan Woodyard each earned fourth place finishes in the high jump and triple jump.

A Regional title by Joey Ferron and Sadie Jones highlighted the day for the Centralia Panthers, while many other Centralia athletes qualified for State. Ferron behind a toss of 48'04 won the boys shot put, while Jones posted a time of 12:24.84 to win the girls 3200 meter run and took second in the 1600. Most of the other lady Panthers that qualified for State are in the field events as Liz Hasenkamp took third in the javelin, while Chelsea Huerter took second in the pole vault, Tara Bergman placed second in the discus and fourth in the shot put and Breanna Hasenkamp tied for third in the pole vault. On the track, Katie Glatczak posted a pair of third place finishes in the girls 100 and 200 meter dashes and the lady Panthers 4x100 meter relay team took third. The boys 4x100 relay team also qualified for State after a second place finish, while Wyatt VanDorn and Stephan LeBlance took second and third in the pole vault. Darrian Turner is headed to State to compete in three events after finishing second in both the 200 meter dash and long jump and third in the 100.

Two Regional titles on the girl’s side of competition led the Regional action for the Axtell Eagles as Kiersten Talbot won the girls 1600 meter run (5:43.72) and Mariah Deters on the girls high jump (5'04). Talbot added a second place finish in the 800 meter run to her day, while Deters placed second in the triple jump, also. Bradie Schmitz is also qualified in a pair of events for State as she took second in the 400 meter dash and fourth in the 800 meter run, while the 4x800 relay team took second and the 4x400 squad placed fourth. For the boys both the 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams are headed to State after taking second and third at Regionals, while Caleb Heiman and Brice Koch each earned second place finishes on the day. Heiman took second in the 300 meter hurdles and Koch in the 800 meter run.

For the Frankfort Wildcats it will be on the boys representing them at State in Wichita. The top performance for Frankfort came from Sheldon Parthemer who vaulted his way to the pole vault win with a vault of 12'06. Broderic Shirley earned a third place finish in the 3200 meter run and fourth in the 1600, while Derek Kraushaar grabbed a pair of third place finishes in the shot put and discus. Lance Ross, Jacob Studer and Rylen Bailey all qualified for State with fourth place finishes in the shot put, 110 meter hurdles and pole vault, respectively and all three Frankfort relays after fourth place finishes in the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 earned spots at State.

Linn Bulldogs were led on the day by six Regional titles with Kendra Bargman winning a pair of them sprinting to wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 13.07 and 27.06, while the girls 4x100 meter relay team picked up the gold with a time of 51.07 and Brook Diederich won the long jump (17'08) and took fourth in the 200 meter dash. For the boys Chad Gross won the high jump (6'04) and Grant Cook tossed his way to the win in the javelin (171'10) and took second in the discus. Micah Dieckmann was the only other Bulldog boy to qualify for State, as he finished fourth in the javelin. On the girls side of action, Kaylie Rahe took second in the 300 meter hurdles and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles, while Shelby Ohlde placed fourth in the high jump and the girls 4x400 meter relay team took second.

McKenzie Blevins of Doniphan West earned a spot at State in four events by taking second in the long jump, third in the triple jump and 200 meter dash and fourth in the 100. While on the boys side of action Kody Collins took second in the 110 meter hurdles to earn a spot at State and the Mustang boys 4x100 meter relay team took third, also.

Clifton-Clyde was led at Regionals by two Regional titles as Elizabeth Nobert won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 48.59 and took third in the 100 meter hurdles, while Kourtni Hubert won the javelin with a toss of 138'08 and finished third in the shot put. The lady Eagles 4x100 meter relay also made it to State by finishing fourth.

Three athletes are headed to State for the Blue Valley-Randolph Rams as Georgia Hatesohl, Kathryn Huston and Chase Carey all earned Top four performances at Regionals. Hatesohl qualified for State in three events as she took second in the 100 meter hurdles, third in the 300 meter hurdles and tied for third in the pole vault. Huston earned a bronze medal in the girls 3200 meter run, while Carey posted second and third place finishes in the boys 1600 and 800 meter runs.

The Wetmore Cardinals had one athlete earn a spot at State as Aaron Achten took fourth place in the 3200 meter run at Regionals.
