KS Class 3A 2015 Regional Track - Nemaha Central Sweeps Regional Titles to Lead Area Performers

Class 3A Regional Track Results - Osage City Regional & Beloit Regional

Ten area schools will represent Northeast Kansas at State track in Class 3A in Wichita the final weekend of May after qualifying for State at Regionals on Friday.

Nemaha Central Thunder made a big impact at the Regional in Osage City as the Thunder girls and boys each claimed Regional team titles. The girl’s edged Silver Lake by three points, while the boys won easily; winning by a 32.5 point margin. Nine Regional titles led the charge for the Thunder in Osage City with Jacob Koelzer notching three by him by posting times of 11.27 and 22.69 to win the 100 and 200 meter dashes and behind a leap of 21'07 won the long jump, also. Colin Lierz was also a multi-event Regional champ for Nemaha Central racing to times of 2:03.13 and 4:46.59 to win the 800 and 1600 meter runs, while Zach Bradley won the 110 meter hurdles (15.66) and Caleb Bradley won the pole vault (13'00). Zach Bradley also qualified for State in the 300 meter hurdles with a third place finish, while the Thunder boys 4x100 meter relay earned a silver, Abe Elder picked up a pair of silvers in the high jump and triple jump and Mikeal Sperfslage finished third in the 3200 meter run to all earn spots at State.

On the girls side it was Samantha Wessel, Rachael Baumgartner and Shaylyn Stallbaumer that all claimed the top spot in an event at Regionals for Nemaha Central. Wessel with a leap of 16'00 took first in the long jump, while also taking third in the triple jump, for Baumgartner she won the pole vault (10'06) and qualified for State in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles after third and second place finishes, respectively. Stallbaumer tossed her way to a win the javelin with a throw of 134'09 and also took third in the shot put. Kaley Dalinghaus like Baumgartner will be competing at State in three events for Nemaha Central as she took second in the shot put and discus at Regionals and third in the javelin, while Allison Rottinghaus earned the silver in the triple jump and Jaci Swart the bronze in the pole vault. On the track Jenna Macke took third in the 300 meter hurdles and Maggie Hammes fourth in the 100 meter hurdles each earning spots at State.

Sabetha Bluejays had the best team performances outside of Nemaha Central as the boys took second as a team and the girls third. The 4x800 meter relay team and Keegan Cox led the Bluejay boys as the relay squad notched a time of 8:29.57 to earn the gold at Regionals and Cox with a time of 10:40.48 took first in the 3200 meter run, while also taking fourth in the 1600. Three silver medals were picked up by Bleujays a Jacob Leuthold, Treavor Schmelzle and Corbin Cox took second in the shot put, javelin and 800 meter run, respectively. Taylor Meyer and Alex Edelman both earned a bronze in the javelin and long jump, respectively, while the boy’s 4x400 meter relay is headed to State, too after finishing third. 

For the lady Bluejays, Meagan Garrett led the charge by winning the high jump behind a leap of 5'02, while Nicole Brey picked up two second place finishes coming in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Heidi Heiniger added a silver medal for Sabetha coming in the javelin, while Rhianna Becker and Courtney Plattner each had third place finishes in the discus and long jump, respectively. Mariah Huneke took fourth in the discus and Emily Meyer placed fourth in the javelin for Sabetha.

A new school record through of 40'02.50 helped Emily Gartner earn the Regional title at Osage City in the girls shot put, while she added the Regional title in the discus to her day, too notching a toss of 139'03 to win that event for Hiawatha. Jordan Puvogel registered a second and third place finish in the girls 3200 and 1600 meter runs, while Cariann Kunkel took second in the girl’s high jump and the girls 4x800 meter relay took third for a spot at State. A second place performance by the boys 4x800 meter relay led the Hiawatha boys, while Brendan Steele took third in the 400 meter dash and fourth in the long jump at Regionals and Gavin Lierz finished fourth in the 300 meter hurdles.

It will be all lady Ravens representing Maur Hill at State track in Wichita after five event Top four performances. Kassie Johnson picked up a Regional title as she posted a time of 16.96 to win the 100 meter hurdles in Osage City, while Grace Siebert and Avery Lewman took second and third, respectively in the girls 400 meter dash. The lady Ravens 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams also will be heading to State after a pair of fourth place finishes at Regionals. 

Riverside Cyclones boys will have multiple representatives at the State competition and helping lead the way is Andrae McGaughy who won the 300 meter hurdles boy’s Regional title with a time of 39.85, while placing third in the 110 meter hurdles. Both Mason McCall and Cole Hinton each qualified in two individual events, also for Riverside. McCall took fourth in both the 110 meter hurdles and pole vault, while Hinton placed third in the 1600 meter run and fourth in the 800. The Cyclones also picked up a second place finish in the boys 4x400 meter relay.

Headed to State for Pleasant Ridge is Grace McKinney, Luke Oatney, Gabe Younger and the boys 4x100 meter relay team. McKinney behind a pair of third place finishes in the girls 100 and 200 meter dashes will be headed to State, while Oatney took second in the boys 1600 meter run, Younger placed third in the 800 meter run and the 4x100 meter relay took fourth at Regionals.

Trey Dishon will be the lone representative at State for the Horton Chargers but he earned that distinction in a big time fashion by winning the Regional titles in the shot put and discus both. A throw of 50'02 claimed gold for Dishon in the shot put, while a throw of 161'03 won him the discus title.

ACCHS was led by a second place performance by Madison Bissell as she posted that in the 800 meter run, while Katie Sullivan took third in the triple jump and the girls 4x400 meter relay team also took third to qualify for State.

Oskaloosa Bear, Dillon Grother qualified for State in 3A in the boy’s triple jump by finishing fourth in the competition.

For the Marysville Bulldogs they were the lone area 3A team not to compete at the Osage City Regional as they hit the track in Beloit for Regional action. Josef Smith led the Bulldog State qualifiers as he won Regional titles in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 4:42.12 and 10:29.68, while Adam Lindhorst took second in the discus and Dayne Brown finished fourth in the javelin. On the girls side of competition the 4x800 meter relay team earned the silver, while Chloe Cudney nabbed third place in the triple jump and Claire Cudney took third in the javelin and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles.
