Linn Girls & Washington County Boys Win TVL Track Titles

The weather started off bleak on Thursday but the skies cleared up and League track action commenced in Washington as Washington County hosted the Twin Valley League track meet. 

At the end of the day it was the Linn lady Bulldogs the host Washington County Tiger boys that laid claim to a League championship. The Linn girls notched 96 total points led by four first place finishes to take first place, while Axtell who tallied 80 total points took second and the Centralia girls finished third. Valley Heights and Clifton-Clyde rounded out the Top five girls team performances taking fourth and fifth. Finishing out the rest of the girls team showings was: Washington County in sixth, Blue Valley in seventh, Hanover eighth, Doniphan West ninth, Onaga tenth, Frankfort 11th, Wetmore 12th and Troy 13th.

The boys League title was decided by a wider margin as Washington County posted 143.50 points and had six first place finishes to lead them to a first place finish, while Hanover took second with 101 points and Valley Heights finished in third. Frankfort and Axtell finished out the Top five boys team performances taking fourth and fifth. Finishing out the rest of the boys team showings was: Centralia in sixth, Onaga seventh, Linn eighth, Doniphan West ninth, Blue Valley tenth and Wetmore 11th.

Leading the way for the Linn lady Bulldogs was Kendra Bargman as she sprinted win the gold in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 12.84 and 26.31, while the lady Bulldogs also won the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays after notching times of 50.83 and 4:19.52. The girls 4x100 time of 50.83 is a new TVL meet record, breaking B&B record from 1999 (51.08). On the boys side of competition Chad Gross grabbed a first place finish in the high jump with a leap of 6'06.

Washington County Tiger boys on their way to a League title had a triple gold winner on the day as Dylan Hodgson swept the distance running races winning the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs behind times of 2:01.68, 4:37.95 and 10:20.36. Brett Herrs also claimed multiple golds for the Tigers as he tossed his way to the win in the shot put (54'05) and discus (137'08.25), while Justin Hoover won the pole vault for Washington County with a vault of 12'06. Herrs mark of 54'05 set a new TVL record by over two inches breaking the record that set back in 2011. Heidi Stegman and Erin Alexander brought home a first place finish each for the lady Tigers as Stegman won the girls pole vault (9'06) and Alexander won the girls shot put (42'06), breaking her own record by six inches that she set in last year.

Elijah Smith closed out his high school career for Valley Heights in TVL competition by adding four gold medals to his medal count, as he won the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and both the long and triple jumps. With times of 14.81 and 40.04 Smith won the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and leaps of 22'02 and 45'02.25 won him the long and triple jump, respectively. His mark of 45'02.25 broke his own TVL record in the triple jump by over a foot. Skyler Sanders and Sidney Blackburn in the girl’s action also won events for Valley Heights, as they won the high jump (5'02) and discus (118'08).

For the Hanover Wildcats it was the boys highlighting the day as they swept the relay competitions winning the 4x100 (43.35), 4x400 (3:26.59) and 4x800 (8:39.40). The Wildcats set new TVL record in the 4x100 and 4x400 as the time of 43.35 in the 4x100 broke Valley Heights 2011 mark of 43.84 and the time of 3:26.59 broke the previous record by over five seconds (Frankfort 2007 - 3:32.03). Evan Zabokrtsky continued to sprint past the competition in the 100 and 200 meter dashes as he posted times of 11.26 and 22.64 to win both events and Preston Jueneman won the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.21. Claire Zarynicky picked up the gold in the girls 800 meter run (2:29.74) for Hanover, while the lady Wildcats also won the 4x800 meter relay (10:41.31).

Five first place finishes by the lady Eagles of Axtell led them on the day as Mariah Deters won both the triple jump (35'01.50) and long jump (17'01.50), while Bradie Schmitz behind a time of 1:01.03 won the 400 meter dash and Kiersten Talbot took first in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:50.88.

Clifton-Clyde had a pair of event winners on the day as both Elizabeth Nobert and Kourtni Hubert brought home first place finishes, winning the 300 meter hurdles (48.55) and javelin (127'00), respectively.

For Centralia, Blue Valley and Onaga one event win on the day led them at the Twin Valley League meet in Washington. Centralia Panther, Sadie Jones paced her way to the win in the 3200 meter run (12:47.87), while Blue Valley Ram, Georgia Hatesohl won the girls 100 meter hurdles (16.19). The Onaga Buffalos were led by Michael Bliss as he won the javelin behind a toss of 152'11.
