Washington County Boys Win & Girls Take Third at Riley County Track Invite

A pair of Twin Valley League track teams took part in the Riley County Invitational on Friday and the Washington County Tigers made their presence known quite well as the boys took home the meet title and the girls finished third, while Blue Valley-Randolph also competed on the day.

It was close but by earning 133 points the Washington Count Tiger boys won by three points over Abilene winning the Riley County Invitational title; while the lady Tigers took home the bronze (Silver Lake girls won the girls competition). Blue Valley finished eighth for the girls and tied for ninth for the boys in a ten team field.

Leading the charge for the Washington County Tigers boys to claim first place as a team was five individual first place finishes on the day. Dylan Hodgson led the charge on the track pacing his way to wins in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs with times of 2:03.39 and 4:32.48. The other three first place medals were earned in the field events as Jared Hoover won the high jump (6'02), Brett Herrs won the shot put (45'11) and Levi Gauby won the pole vault (12'00). Two first place finishes were also garnered in the girl’s action for Washington County as Erin Alexander tossed her way to wins in the shot put and discus with tosses of 41'06 and 124'11.

Both Herrs and Gauby also earned second place finishes coming in the discus and triple jump, respectively, while Justin Hoover took second in the pole vault and Kyle Edger took the silver in the long jump. The quartet of Jefferson Simmons, Cole Thompson, Joe Eaton and Edger grabbed a second place finish in the 4x100 meter relay, while in the girls competition Brook Tuma placed second in both the discus and javelin. Jenna Hennerberg also earned a second place finish for the Tigers, it coming in the shot put, while also placing fourth in the pole vault. Six bronze medals were earned by Tigers on the day as Heidi Stegman took third in the pole vault and Courtney Bekemeyer placed third in the shot put in girl’s action. While on the boys side Logan Kier placed third in the discus, Colin Cudney nabbed third in the pole vault, Eaton took third in the shot put and the team of Simmons, Thompson, Hunter Kier and Hodgson placed third in the 4x400 meter relay.

Eaton added a fourth place finish to his day in the 100 meter dash, while Jon Harding took fourth in the 300 meter hurdles and Hunter Kier placed fourth in the discus. The team of Courtney Moore, Holly Delay, Hennerberg and Annie Otott placed fourth in the 4x100 meter relay and Gabryelle Gilliam registered a fourth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles for the Tigers.

Blue Valley was led on the day by four Top four performances as Georgia Hatesohl earned three of those four performances. Hatesohl's best showing was in the 100 meter hurdles where she placed second, while she took third in the 100 meter dash and fourth in the 200 meter dash. Chase Carey earned the only Rams boys Top four, placing third in the 1600 meter run.

Track season continues for Blue Valley on Friday at the Frankfort Invitational, while Washington County is back to action on Tuesday as they host their home meet.
