Nemaha Central & Vermillion's Ryan Vernon Have Top Showings at Washington County Boys Golf Invite

It was a beautiful day on Tuesday to tee it up on the golf course that that is what several area boys golf teams did taking part in the Washington County Invite.

The Nemaha Central Thunder put together the best four-man team score claiming first place by five strokes with a 340 score, while Republic County took second with a 345. Three other schools field four-man teams and all hail from the Twin Valley League as Onaga, Vermillion (Centralia/Frankfort) and Washington County finished third, fourth and fifth with team scores of 353, 362 and 399.

Thunder were led by a three Top 10 individual finishes on the day with Zach Bradley posting the second best round of golf on Tuesday, finishing with a 78, just one stroke off of first place. Dylan Enneking and Blake Mahoney joined Bradley in the Top 10 finishing fifth and tenth, respectively with scores of 83 and 88. Tristan Allen, Corey Heiman and Michael Love all competed for the Thunder also posting rounds of 91, 97 and 116, respectively.

Third place team on the day the Onaga Buffalos were led by two Top five finishes as Lucas Helget led the Buffalos with a 80 to take third and Tyler Fleming followed in fourth with an 83. Jace Fischer and James Johnson rounded out Onaga's four-man team score with rounds of 91 and 99, respectively, while Ben Kufahl posted a 110 on the day.

Vermillion’s, Ryan Vernon (Centralia) the defending 1A State champion put together the best round at the Washington County Invite finishing with a 78 to take individual first place. Teammate, Danny Mueting also grabbed a Top 10 finish on the day with a round of 85, earning himself ninth place. While, Jason Gore, Marshall Reutti and Kobe Rumbo also competed for Vermillion posting rounds of 95, 105 and 110.

For the host school Washington County they were led by the performance of Evan Oullette who shot a 91 on the day, while Hunter Johnson and Matt Small posted rounds of 92 and 94, respectively. Both Sidney Applegrath and Scott Romeiser also competed each notched a round of 122.

Three other TVL schools in Valley Heights, Hanover and Linn also had competitors in action at the Washington County Invite.

The Mustangs were led by Payton Manley as he was the only Valley Heights golfer to break 100, finishing at 92. Bryan Yungeberg, Katlynn Treff and Quentin Tryon all took to the course for Valley Heights notching rounds of 122, 126 and 127.

For Linn a 99 was the best score on the day as Andrew Meyer posted that round, while Kalen Richardson posted a 125, Ted Hornbostel finished with a 138 and Jenna Ohlde scored a 168.

The Hanover Wildcats had three golfers in action finishing with scores of 125, 130 and 136 was Aaron Hedrickson, Stuart Graff and Brandon Gerleve.
