Pawnee City Girls and Sacred Heart Boys Win Pioneer Conf. Indoor Titles

The Pawnee City girls and Falls City Sacred Heart boys were the champions of the Pioneer Conference Indoor Track Meet hosted by Doane College in Crete Thursday. 

Pawnee City scored 107 points to easily win the girls title.  Friend was second with 64, HTRS was third with 57 points, Sacred Heart was fifth with 49.

On the boys side the Irish scored 109 points, Sterling was second with 82, Pawnee City and Diller-Odell tied for third with 57.5 and HTRS was fifth with 34. 

Pawnee City sophomore Mairah Willey had a great start to the season winning four gold medals. Willey won titles in the 60 meter dash, 60 meter hurdles, high jump and the long jump.  She won the long jump going 17-7-3/4 which was more than two feet further than anyone else. 

Pawnee City also had first place finishes from Jenna habegger in the shot put. Olivia Farwell was the winner in the pole vault. 

For Sacred Heart Maggie Goltz won the triple jump.

HTRS freshman Allie Binder had an excellent first meet with wins in the 3200 by nearly 90 seconds and in the 1600 meters. 

Taylor Cockerill of Sterling won the 400.

For the boys events Sacred Heart junior Henry Arnold picked up gold medals in the 200 and 400 meters and a gold in the 4 x 400 relay with Sawyer Kean, Keith Salimo and Austin Malone.  Arnold also got third in the triple jump. 

Kean won the long mump and 60 meter dash, he placed second in the 200.  Austin Malone won the triple jump by more than two feet and was second in the long jump.

Clayton Branek of Pawnee City won the shot;  Alex Menninga won the 1600 and 3200 meters. 

Sterling won the 4 x 800 relay and Rhet Dirks won the 800 meters.
