The atmosphere was rocking in Seneca on Tuesday night for the second time around this season for rivals Sabetha and Nemaha Central to meet up on the court and the games didn't disappoint with a pair of tight competitions. The lady Thunder avenged an earlier season loss to Sabetha by grabbing the 39-36 win, while the Sabetha boys swept the regular season series with a 38-33 win in Seneca.

A slow start to the game by both teams gave way to just a 13-12 lead at halftime for Sabetha as neither team could find a groove in the competition. Both teams seemed to settle in the second half and Nemaha Central battle to take the lead in the third quarter lead by a pair of three-pointers by Kennedy McKernan to spark the Thunder to run to take a 28-24 advantage headed into the fourth quarter after a 16-11 third. The Thunder had to fend of Sabetha down the stretch and went 8-8 from the free throw (12-19 free throws in the game) in the second half to earn the 39-36 win.

With the win Nemaha Central improved to 14-5 on the season and stretched their winning streak to five games, while moving to 11-4 in Big Seven action. Jaci Swart paced the Thunder on the night with 13 points, while McKernan tallied 11 points, including a pair of big three-pointers in the third quarter earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA radio. Sabetha with the loss fell to 16-3 on the year and 13-2 in Big Seven play, as Alexis McAfee led the Bluejays with 13 points, while Emily Meyer added 10 points.

The Sabetha Bluejays flew out of the gate to start the boys’ varsity competition leading 11-0 before Nemaha Central finally broke the seal with a free throw over midway through the first quarter. The Bluejays led 13-1 after one and used that cushion to led 23-9 at the half as the shooting woes continued for the Thunder, as they hit only four shots from the floor in the first half, while Sabetha was 5-10 from three-point range in the first half. It was a different Thunder team in the second half starting things off with an old-fashion three-point play by Luke Holthaus and going on a run to get with six-points, trailing 27-21 after three quarters. The Thunder continued to chip away at the lead in the fourth but Sabetha made the plays needed down the stretch of a tightly called game to earn the win 38-33.

Kegan Schumann led Sabetha with 12 points, earning Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA radio, while Kellen Russell scored 10 points for the Bluejays. The win pushes Sabetha to 18-1 on the year and a perfect 15-0 in Big Seven League play. While the loss for the Thunder is their third loss in a row, moving them to 14-5 on the year and 11-4 in Big Seven play. Devin Henry paced Nemaha Central on the night with 11 points.

Both teams will wrap up the regular season on Thursday night as Sabetha will be at Perry Lecompton and Nemaha Central will host ACCHS.
