Ranked - Valley Falls Girls and Jackson Heights Boys - Win Tough Games

It wasn't near as easy the second meeting, but on Tuesday the Valley Falls Girls and Jackson Heights boys won to stay a top the Northeast Kansas League Standings.  

GIRLS = Valley Falls 43, Jackson Heights 37

Valley Falls led 12-6 after one quarter and was still ahead by 4 points at half and entering the final quarter. Jessica Keehn made a four-point-play for Jackson Heights to tie the game at 35 with five minutes left to play. Yet, the Lady Dragons made 9 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to pull away on the road for their sixth consecutive victory.   

The #8 ranked Valley Falls girls struggled going 0-11 behind the arc but won the rebounding battle and got a team high 13 points from 6'1, freshman, Rachel Frakes, who was the "Player to Bank On" sponsored by the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company in downtown Hiawatha.  Jenna Kramer added 9 points, including 7 of 8 free throws and Ali Brown had 8 as the Dragons improved to 12-0 in the NEKL and 14-2 overall.  Keehn finished with 8 of her 16 points in the final quarter, but was one of three Cobra players that fouled out as Jackson Heights fell to 9-8 overall and 7-6 in League competition with a 17 turnover game.  

BOYS = Jackson Heights 54, Valley Falls 42

The fast and physical game was tight for a half with the Cobras taking a 22-20 lead into the locker room.  Zane Richter scored 12 of his 22 points in the third quarter and Jackson Heights pulled away with a 17-7 run.  Valley cut the gap to 47-42 with just under three minutes left, but couldn't get any closer or overcome 23 turnovers on the night.  Grant Haag scored half the Dragon points with 21 while Marty Gatzmeyer added 9. 

The #6 ranked Jackson Heights boys had a ton of offensive rebounds and senior, Seth Holliday was the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company "Player to Bank On" with a season high 12 points including a couple big trifecta's.  The Cobras made 16 of 20 free throws on the night improving to 15-2 overall and 12-1, tied with MH-MA, for first in the NEKL.  Wyatt Olberding was 6-6 at the line in the fourth quarter and added 9 points in helping Jackson Heights win their sixth straight game.
