The regular season is in the books and Regional wrestling is all that stands in front of wrestlers across the State of Kansas to earn a spot at the State tournament at the end of the month. The KWCA has released its latest set of rankings leading up to Regionals this weekend and 14 area grapplers and two area teams are ranked this week in Class 4A and 3-2-1A.

The Holton Wildcats who have enjoyed another strong wrestling season continue to highlight the Class 4A rankings for the area, as they gear up to earn spots at State to defend their back-to-back State Championships. The Wildcats as a team remain ranked eighth in the Top 10 in 4A, while the trio Wildcats ranked last week also remain ranked and steadfast in their same spot. Senior, Lucas Lovvorn continues to hold the number one spot at 160lbs as he as all season, while junior, Justin Rieschick once again checks in at second at 145lbs and senior, Mason Baum again ranks sixth at 170lbs.

Eleven area grapplers and one team are ranked in 3-2-1A this week as the Marysville Bulldogs lead the way ranking sixth as a team and having three individuals ranked. Senior, Josh Nelson continues to remain atop the rankings at 170lbs, while junior, Chris Deters checks in at fourth again this week at 126lbs and sophomore, Jacob Mintzmyer ranks fifth once more at 152lbs.

Troy Trojan senior, Tristan Speer remains atop his weight class at 195lbs as he ranks number one again, staying in that spot all year. His wrestling teammates from Doniphan West in juniors, Kody Collins and Garret Dunlap check in at sixth in their weight classes of 182lbs and 160lbs, respectively. Both Collins and Dunlap fell three spots in the rankings this week.

Onaga Buffalo seniors, Kyle Ames and Dustin Blow remained this week as Ames moved up one spot to third at 182lbs and Blow remained ranked fifth at 195lbs. Sabetha Bluejays for the second straight week have a pair of grapplers ranked as senior, Jacob Leuthold fell one spot to third at 285lbs and junior, Brandon Poe moved up one spot to fifth at 170lbs. ACCHS Tiger sophomore, Hunter Ostertag is the only other area grappler ranked and has been most of the season, moving up to third this week at 120lbs.

Regionals are set to commence this Friday and continue on Saturday for area grapplers to vie for a spot at the State tournament. Class 4A Regional involving area teams will be at Baldwin and start at 2:00pm on Friday and 11:00am on Saturday, while the Class 3-2-1A Regional involving area teams is at St. Mary's and will have action start on Friday at 3:00pm and Saturday at 9:00am.
